PRHT roof / windscreen leak

Over the winter my 2010 PRHT developed a leak and now the weather is drying up I want to try and fix it.

When I first noticed the leak there was water running down the the driver’s side of the windshield. When I pulled down the sun visor a lot of water dripped out so I suspected the bolts there. I checked them now everything is dry and the bolts have clearly been getting wet. The latch also looks a bit grungy which I dont remember it looking like before the winter.

I checked the seal around the PRHT itself and it looks fine to my eye. The windscreen seal doesn’t look as good but I couldn’t see any obvious splits.

Anyone else dealt with this and have any ideas? Thanks.

You need to treat those seals, all the seals to some Autoglym rubber and vinyl spray, other products available. Before that give them all a good clean down, a toothbrush, a small stiffish brush to scrub them. Keep them clean and treated and they’ll do the job of sealing properly.

Ok thanks for that. I’ll be very happy if thats all it takes. When it comes to cleaning them with a brush, I can just use soap and water?

Yep, car shampoo will do.

The latch mechanism may need adjusting.

From memory those rubbers have drain holes in them ( you can see a hole in the rubber in your photo). The drain hole could be blocked causing water to back up and drip inside your car. Try tipping a small amount of water into the hole and watch the outlet at the bottom end of the rubber seal down by the door hinges on the A pillar.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I was planning to give the car a good post-winter clean this weekend anyway but now I’ve ordered some of the Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber care so I’ll make sure I give the seals extra attention and then treat them. I’ll inspect the drain holes while I’m at it and if after all that there’s still water coming in I’ll look into adjusting the latch.

Thought I’d just post a quick update.

Last week I cleaned all the seals with a toothbrush and some Autoglym interior cleaner, wiping the dirt away with a microfibre as I went. Once they were clean and try and rubbed in the Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber care with a clean microfibre. I did two coats of that.

Had a decent amount of rain (12+ hours) over the weekend and after inspection is seems like the interior stayed dry. I checked the obvious areas that had been leaking - particularly the bolts under the driver’s side sun visor and they were bone dry.

Thanks again for everyone’s help. Just as a precaution I did watch some videos on adjusting the roof tension and while I didn’t measure the gap there is absolutely no play in the roof when its closed so I think its probably fine.
