PRHT Windows stay partially down

NC 2012 Miyako 2l

PRHT strange window action:
When the roof returns to closed it drops the window a few inches, completes the roof return, I then latch it down but the windows stay slightly open and need manually using the switches to close.

This is not a major issue but I would rather the windows would close again, is this normal operation?

Is there a logical reason for the windows staying down a tad?

Is there a fault?

Is there a software update.

Thanks

Roy

No fault - that’s how they are supposed to work. Might seem illogical, but there it is.

Thanks Chris,

Strange logic, I fancied it was normal and just a pain, interesting Mazda logic though, I’l love to know why.

As mentioned, it’s normal operation - though I’m also flummoxed to understand why.

What’s even worse is that once you take the key out of the ignition, the windows are immediately disabled. On all my other cars, the electric windows remain operative for a minute or so after they key has been removed.

So my usual parking involves pressing the ā€œroof upā€ button once (I have a SmartTop module fitted) as I approach the parking space, park the car, wait for the ā€œbeepā€ to say that the roof has fully closed, switch off the car, take the key out of the ignition, latch the roof, realise that the windows are still partly down, put the key back in the ignition and turn to the Acc position, close the windows, remove the key again and then get out of the car!

That’s how it works same as my car

Mine works the same but I cross my fingers and say a little prayer everytime…

I do that every time I operate the roof !

Thankyou all for your responses, I can live with it but would love to know why such logic though.

Thanks
Roy

I think the ā€˜logic’ is in the fact that there is no resistance sensor in the system therefore you could trap something and it would just keep crushing it till the motor stalled or burnt out. The same logic is why there is no ā€˜one shot’ to put the window up, you have to hold your finger on to put the window up.
Incidentally the popup headlights on the Mk1 are one of the most dangerous bits of engineering I have seen, they would take an arm off given the chance. The motor does NOT reverse to close the lamps. You have been warned, don’t mess with them or they will get you!!

Hi Mad Malc,

That seams logical, I’m going to test the resistance later today and prove your no cutout theory.

It’s always best to use very small children for these test purposes, they have no perception of danger but will squeal loudly if there is any pain!!!
