Thursday this week mark the 60th Anniversary of Princess Diana’s birth - Six months older than me to the day…! (You can tell I’m a fan of hers…! ) Harry unveiling a statue on Thursday, but today, on a motoring theme, her 1981 Ford Escort Ghia sold this morning at auction for over £52k…!

Well, she sure kissed a frog of sorts.

Does it have seat belts in the back seats?!

Hi Rob, saw something on the news early this morning, didn’t realise the auction was today  did say they’d had interest from around the world though! No idea who the vendor was, or how much they acquired it for, but strong money at the end of the day :+1: Thank you for posting, I might have missed it otherwise.

You are welcome Barrie. I’d like to think it will end up in a UK museum, but I’d imagine interest from the US would have been particularly strong too… Are very ordinary car for sure but with prestigious provenance…

Interesting to see that in the first picture the protection officer isn’t wearing a seatbelt. Now this may be legal but Diana probably learnt by example. I’m sure the main reason for the crash that killed her was an intoxicated driver and this was compounded by press hounding. However wearing a seatbelt could well have saved her life. 20/20 hindsight I know but things could have been a lot different. William and particularly Harry would have gained so much from her motherly love.

Didn’t have to wear seatbelts in 81, I took my test in June 82 and my instructor suggested I wear it during the test, it wasn’t compulsory.

Blimey! I forget, took motorcycle test in ‘72, you didn’t need belts for that :joy: and car test in ‘76 and can’t remember much about belts for that? Time flies! My memory just about walks let alone fly!

Looks like it’s having a long journey to South America to a museum in Chile…!

I wonder if Megan’s car will go for a similar price, one day :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

‘Furious Driving’ did a review of this car last week, including driving it

Prob worth a couple of quid! :joy::metal::guitar::sunglasses:

I checked my other car on webuyanycar.com a while ago and they keep sending me better offers. It’s a 2013 petrol Mazda6 Sport with 41k miles on the clock. The latest offer today is £7.7k which is crazy - I bought it from my local Mazda main dealer four years ago with 31k miles for only £2k more than that.

I thought I’d better have a look on autotrader to see what they are selling for and there is only one petrol 2013 Mazda6 with similar mileage nationally (!), a lower spec (SE-L) and it’s up for £11.25k. I’m amazed. The world’s gone mad. But then you didn’t need me to tell you that…

Her black RS Turbo went under the hammer for circa 650k or summat last week.

Princess Diana’s Escort sold for £650,000 to a UK buyer.
I was going to say-: HOW MUCH???
But then remembered Prince Andrews Escort cost our Queen, £12 Million.
So it’s cheap really in comparison
