Project Speedster

here is a small update and a few pictures.

this is how the door and sill modification is starting to look now it is starting to get ready for paint.

and the side repeater I have decided to go with

I’ve also started work on a short consul

whilst owning this car I have noticed a few things that have hinted to a track past, the obvious things were plenty of braces and a cusco cage that I took out and fitted to my other car, but the less obvious was evidence of a sticker giving a blood type that was on the drivers door which was only noticable when catching it in the light at a certain angle.

The most recent find should have been obvious, there has always been a badge on the rear panel, it was very tarnished, and not really possible to read, and I had never taken the time to really look at it, but once removed and cleaned up a bit this is what I found

you can see where it was positioned in this picture, it is the badge on the right hand side of the panel

so it certainly looks like it had a track focused past, I wonder if the original owner knows what is happening to his old car now

Thats looking really good Garath {#emotions_dlg.thumb} Keep up the good work mate, It wont be long before it’s ready for it’s first show !

Wow!!! that is excellent, if only I could find out which one it was, thank you for that

Looking good Cool

This is a very interesting project. Its looking stunning. I’m amazed how the 25 year old body shape still looks so modern. The megane hood humps were a master stroke.   I have previously considered removing the screen and surround on my trackday car as a weight saving feature. (There is very little of anything else to get rid of). However I was concerned that removing the screen surround would weaken the shell and possibly alter the handlimg. Are my worries unfounded or is this a genuine concern? If the screen surround has no strengthening effect i’m off to buy a hacksaw!  But nobody likes a floppy one do they? Does anybody else have thoughts?

Well if your worried about that you could always have a brace bar welded across where you cut the screen frame off to keep the integrity intact?

Sorry but that would defeat the object of wieght saving.   There is already a reasonably substantial brace under the dash, but I just worry that both this and the screen surround are required to maintain the integrity of the shell.

Well not really given that you are loosing the window, frame, rubberseals and the plastic trim amongst other items… so a simple cross brace made from a length of Ali isn’t going to weight the same, thus saving quite allot of weight.

I very small update, I’ve not really had much time to work on it.

But I have mounted the door buttons

and I visited the company that is re-trimming the seats, they are not finished yet, there is more work to do to lose some of the wrinkles in the centre are, so that is not finished off yet, but they are looking good

Very nice Garath & thanks for showing around your place at the weekend. She’s gonna look fantastic Thumbs up

I’ve got some new pictures for you all today.

The engine bay, underside of bonnet and boot, and the inlet plemum all became the new colour today, it is my first glimpse of the actual colour on anything other than a colour swatch, and I am happy to say that I am very pleased with it, the photos don’t show the pearl and metalic effect under the lighting of the oven/booth, but it is stunning, I am very happy

The colour is a 3 stage pearl, so the following photos were taken at various stages, with the last ones being the finished colour.

Two idiots watch the experts at work

The next photos are the finished colour, as I say, the photos don’t show the pearl and metalic which is a shame, but I can assure you it looks amazing in the flesh
