I’m looking to put an LSD in my 1995 UK 1.6 MK1, I’ve had a look round and seen a few things but can’t find anything specifically relating to my peasant spec mx5! I’m not very clued up when it comes to diffs so will be getting someone to do the work for me, just wondering if anyone had a list of the parts that will be needed to carry out the conversion from an open diff to an lsd, as well as a rough price?
I know a UK car with only 90bhp isn’t the greatest place to start and that its not suddenly going to become a drift monster, but I just want to be able to have a bit more fun in the wet rather than constantly spinning the inside wheel!
Used viscous LSD from a 1.6 Roadster; may not be functioning anymore and non-serviceable (to date, though I recall someone managed to overhaul similar VW vlsds…).
Used Torsen; you are going to need the driveshafts etc from a 1.8. Miata.net has a few write ups. However, most Mk1 Torsens are 4.100 final drive, compared to your 4.300 drive, which will make the car a bit slower to 60. 1996-1998 Mk1 Roadster Torsens are 4.300, but these are quite rare, and there is no way really to guarantee you have the correct part.
Used are going to be £200-400 for the box of bits.
