Questions and comments

Hmm, Heisenberg. Well, his quantum mechanics involves very, very tiny things, my Mazda steering wheel is only marginaly relevant to his uncertain principle. But then, like so many things in the quantum world I could be wrong. Or right.
This could turn into a learned discussion for which this may not be the right forum! Not that I am in any way casting doubts on the qualities of the members of this forum.
Heaven forfend!

Sorry for the stream of consciousness Roger, clearly this has nothing to do with quantum physics.

And of course there might be something wrong with your steering, all I know is that if I obsess about it I’ll always think there is. Eventually I forget about it and when eventually I think about it again I realise that I haven’t noticed it in the meantime.

Oh please don’t apologise. I can go on with this sort of stuff for hours until all the world drops dead with boredom!
I wonder if we could work Schrodinger’s cat into this.

I’m up for that, but only if we use the Series Solution of Hermite’s equation and the Har-
monic Oscillator.

Is the steering alive or is it dead? That depends on the location of the observer and the randomness of the settings on the production line.

A few recent experiences here, on the topic of wheel alignment/steering feel:

Remember that Shrodinger’s cat was most likely a fur covered device. As one might expect from a feline, it would obey its own Fuzzy logic, and would appear to him both dead and alive, and inside and outside, and many states in between.

In other words it’s just like any other cat in a domestic environment, neither in nor out, but always in and out, and rarely where the observer expects. Except at meal time, which breaks the conundrum.

Hermetite, my dad used to swear by that…and at it!

What, he used to swear by this?

Sad, but I used to love stuff like this in Uni lol

The only thing i recognise there is Epsilon, but then equations were always Greek to me.

Thank you that’s helpful.

Perhaps if I get a nice furry cover for the steering wheel…

Armed with Flyin Miata figures I booked a “Reglage geometrie” at a quite well respected chain Tyre place.
I explained that I didn’t want the manufacturers figures and showed them the Flyin Miata ones.
When it was done I looked at the before and after charts and they were almost identical. I queried this and they told me that their machine would only work with manufacturers settings.
A long conversation followed with quite a lot of gallic shrugging. At first they offered me 10% discount which I didn’t think much of as they hadn’t done what I asked for but then they handed me the keys and said “don’t pay”.
So I have an appointment for next week with another outfit who assure me they will use whatever settings I want.
We’ll see.

FYI Roger

I used some settings on here from a forum member Snelly in this topic ND Alignment Spec slightly less than the flyin miata but I want a simple base line first

Filled the car with fuel and had my alignment done today at Kwik Fit. They have a Hunter alignment and happy to do as I’ve asked on other cars, so ideal for me.

Interestingly the caster was already on 8 degrees, I asked for as close evenly as possible on everything, as anything better than the before setting was a bonus, and happy to leave it like that at the moment.

Car feels slightly more pointy, which is good, and straight ahead on dual carriageway has improved too, with less wandering so happy enough, also feels a little better at dead centre, might be placebo though

Hope you get yours sorted :+1:

Interesting that you were able to dial in some custom specs at a Kwik-Fit branch. Out of interest, which one did you visit and how much did they charge?

I haven’t been to one of their branches in years, but at the time they were only willing to apply ‘book’ figures.

Yeah I have been pleasantly surprised as Kwik Fit is not my normal place to visit,

I used Kwik Fit in Stowmarket Suffolk.

I’ve used Nacton road Ipswich too, and they were equally helpful and also have a Hunter alignment. I think they must get lots of ppl just wanting an alignment after badly worn non branded tyres and don’t really want to pay £100 for it, so its a hard sell, but they seem happy to help someone who knows what they want.

My guess is if you call a kwik Fit centre they’ll probably say they aren’t prepared to do it, just in case its a mystery shopper, but I just discussed what I wanted with them when I turned up after making an online booking. Just check they have a Hunter at the centre you want to use.

£100 for adjustment, nothing to check, but you’ll always want/need something even if you had it done last week, due to the level of accuracy of machines these days (sneeze near a track rod and the machine see’s it.)

I didn’t think anyone considered going to them and giving them money, after that scandal a few years back

That’s very interesting, your observations are what I am hoping to achieve. Mine goes in tomorrow. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Yes we had a couple of bad experiences with them.
