Just picked up my car from the Geometrie place. Explained about the Flyin’Miata figures and they said OK.
Absolutely undrivable! Above 60kph it feels as though it’s on ice, I would genuinely be afraid to drive any faster, fortunately it’s only 2-3 kms from home. Goes back tomorrow to be returned to standard!!!
Interesting. Just to say that there’s plenty of scope between some example custom settings (Flyin’ Miata in this case) and OEM. It’s not a binary ‘on or off’ situation here.
To be honest, I would have expected a decent alignment place to send you out for a quick test after the first dialling in of settings, to see what you thought. And be ready for further adjustments. When I last ran through setup on my NC2 after coilover fitment, I think we went through 4 iterations to get it where I wanted it.
Do you have the before and after printouts?
If so it would be useful to share on here.
I have used the FM settings on more than one car and found them good.
Yes, probably might have been best to have had a quick spin to see if it was okay, but then 2-3KM home is hardly far anyway.
That’s the thing with internet hero stories of what’s allegedly best for your car, sometimes even if you’re happy in the first place lol Yes, maybe best to put it to standard- you know, like 99% of other cars, and learn by it.
I fell into that rabbit hole myself with changing tyre size on another car (and no, not going cheaper). The greatest thing in the world it was supposed to be, if you read the internet stores by people who spent their own money doing it ![]()
I asked for the printouts but they said the printer was not working!
I took it back this morning and they put it back to manufacturers settings. It was done by a different technician and he said that one or more bolts had not been tightened up properly.
I have to say that the car feels fine now although the original issue with the steering is still present.
I have yet another appointment with another “specialist” on Monday afternoon, they are equipped with a Hunter 3D scanner so maybe that will be the answer. We’ll see.
Where is the place to save other owners going there?
Tacqui Pneus. St Cyprien.
Disaster! Monday’s specialist found that the driver’s side rear wheel was badly aligned but because of damage to the eccentric adjustment screw they were unable to correct it. They suggested taking it to a Mazda dealer but they felt that any repair could be very expensive. They also pointed out that as I now know about the damage, I could not sell the car.
This last examination was carried out by a firm called AutoZen and the two guys working on the car seemed knowledgeable and helpful.
I think it unlikely that the guarantee issued by the firm I bought the car from will cover this and Im also sure that all concerned will deny responsibility in fact my insurers said they hoped I was covered for legal expenses!
If it’s just the alignment bolts themselves that are damaged, MX-5 Parts offer them for a reasonable price:
It appears you’re based in France. If I may make a suggestion, it would be worthwhile seeking out the French equivalent to these forums and asking them for specialist recommendations. One may even use the string method which I would vouch for.
Well, it would be wonderful if that’s all it is, won’t know till next week. Thanks for the heads up.
Just had the job done by the mechanic who looked after my Elise and yes,he did it with string! It was a bit of a faddle to get it right but he got it done where others failed!
Update from my post 26 days ago.I had the alignment done yesterday by a well known specialist in Sheffield.the car still feels sharp and predictable but the awful dead feel is gone, much improved.
I haven’t a clue what settings he used but I am very happy with the results.
My car is a 2016 nd 1.5 with 27000 miles on the clock, probably never been touched by previous owner and so the geometry needed checking anyway.
Drove from Sheffield to York and then home to Huddersfield on various roads and again in the evening on some local pennine ones, about 100 miles in total.so much better to drive, amazing.thanks Paul.
Ladies and gentleman, I give you Rodders.
Correct👍
So he hasn’t retired then - as I’m sure I read somewhere.
No he hasn’t retired.I actually asked him that myself yesterday whilst paying as I had also read it on the forum.he strongly denied the allegation.but said he would keep checking future posts.
That is true by the way.
