Quick question on clutch pedal adustment

  1. My model of MX-5 is:2008 NC1 2.0

In this diagram it shows the clutch adjustment which is commonly used /advised on here about “moving the bite point out of the carpet”

My concern about adjusting the free play out of the linkage is that this will then leave the hydraulic system always under a little bit of tension (as opposed to the 0.1 to 0.5mm free play stated as correct adjustment). Does this then cause other problems such as premature failure of slave or master cylinder, or worse, the clutch thrust bearing?

I got in there the other day and dialed in about one turn of adjustment which removed all the free play and just ‘engaged’ the piston and no more. Am I now doomed to breakdown?

Thoughts and experience anyone?

I’m no expert but I did mine a few years ago on my last NC, it had been fine for a number of years after.
In another thread which popped up this morning mentioning the very same thing. Suggest having the fluid changed/bled in the clutch system. Others have reported an improved clutch operation and smoother change in doing so.
My plan is to have the same carried out, just got to get myself organised with that one.
I did do the clutch pedal adjustment on this latest NC, that brought a slight improvement, still have a little play at the pedal too.
I think in reality the NC’s 6 speeder is notoriously notchy when cold, doing the various adjustments can help improve matters. I still find both 6 speed gearboxes in the NC to be notchy, even my NB 6 speed was the same.
I changed the oil in mine last week even though it was reported to have been done around 15k miles ago. Haven’t a clue what had been put in there, it looked like it had been in there for much longer, horrible looking stuff. Not actually been out to test any improvement.
Anyways I digress, all this stuff should help the gear/clutch operation, hopefully.:+1:
