Quick release and/or boss kit

I looking to get a new steering wheel for my NA and along with it a quick release set up for some sort of security as it currently doesn’t have anything equipped. What I want to know is do you have to buy a boss kit and the quick release to fit the steering wheel or do you only need the quick release. I don’t want to end up buying both and to then find out I only need one of the two items.

Ive used a kit in the past on my vw Jetta gti (1990 before airbags)
I believe it was a brand named ‘snap off’ came with boss for coloum and release boss for steering wheel. I also bought steering wheel from them, not sure if your keeping original or not
