Race of Remembrance

It seems rather quiet on here at the moment, but if you don’t know, in just 72 hours time the first part of this year’s race of remembrance will be over, which is the night race part of the 1,000km race in aid of the charity Mission Motorsport at Anglesey race circuit. 45 cars are taking part, including touring car drivers and works teams. However the majority of cars taking part are MX-5’s. The MX-5 OC, which is your club have an entry in this race and 4 OC members are taking part in their first race. There is a huge program of activity over the weekend including fireworks, so if you can, please come down and cheer them on.

Traveling to anglesey today Nick,  looking forward to a great weekend.

Be spectating On Saturday ??

For those of us that live too far away to travel, its live on the TV tmrw

We’ve got a few photos and more info on the Club Facebook and Twitter feed, it’s been action packed but by all accounts but not much of that coming out from the circuit which I think has dodgy internet!

www.facebook.com/mx5oc

A transmission upload dish being battered by winds that can stop an Irish ferry doesn’t help. Living nearby I can sympathise with the open top racers.

from www.facebook.com/mx5oc I think its all over now, conditions were worsening, just waiting for confirmation of the results… I think the Club team may have done OK…

The guys did really well in my opinion, a bunch of drivers who hadn’t raced before and they got the car home in those conditions. Great job lads, you did the club and yourselves proud!

we did have Ben Tuck in the team though, he’s a racer…

I know Ben’s got some experience but they all had to deal with those conditions.

yes indeed, just waiting for any more updates. Race was cut short due to the bad conditions…

I assume this is the final result copied and pasted from here…

Some pictures from the RoR OC Garage ( and neighbours) before it got too wet to get the camera out!

The OC stand nearly blew away even though it was in the marquee.

Just got back from some of the worst weather I have ever seen at a Race meeting.

The TV dish was destroyed by the weather at about 1100 stopping all transmissions.

What about the team? they performed way above my expectations and came in a very creditable 28th out of 44 starters.

All the drivers did incredibly well considering the conditions and I applaud each and everyone of them, yes as somebody quoted the team had Ben Tuck, who is just coming to the end of his rooky year. We also had Richard Smith who was the MAX5 Mk 1 Champion for 2015, The other two Drivers, Andrew Malcolm and Andy Paterson, it was their first ever race and both drove excellently taking the conditions in their stride, well done to you all. Being out on track myself I can vouch for how difficult it was just to stay on track.

We must not forget all the club members that came along to support and help run the team, without their help this event could not have happened for the club. We also had a club stand in the hospitality marquee which raised nearly £500 for mission motorsport. Well done to all who helped on the stand. After all the sponsorship money has been collected and the sums sorted out, the club will be presenting a cheque to Mission Motorsport with the excess money raised, this will take place at the Autosport Show at the NEC in January.

Already I am having people approaching me interested in taking part next year, if you feel that you could make the grade and get through the selection, why not contact me and put your name forward for next years team.

Once again, well done to everybody involved and a big thankyou to you all on behalf of the owners club.

Peter

On behalf of the Owners Club I would like to add our collective congratulations to the OC team. I spent the whole weekend at the event and being used to wet weather took all the right gear. How they managed to drive so well in the windy conditions that eventually forced an early end to the event is testament to their skill and appreciation of the challenges close racing presents. Add to that the fact that several teams failed to complete the endurance race and I can only applaud their efforts.

This is the first time that the OC has supported a team and I for one hope to see it repeated. I appreciate that motorsport is not everyone’s cup of tea but when you see an MX-5 on the track racing against more expensive and financially supported cars and teams you can see why Mazda has bought into the passion and we love driving them!!

Having attended a number of Remembrance services over the years I can honestly say that the one in the pit area on the Sunday was one of the most moving I have been too. Supporting Mission Motorsport has benefited the OC in a number of ways and the Club stand in hospitality promoted a number of their stickers and badges in recognition of us being given space in the main tent. Given the weather conditions a perfect location and much appreciated by the OC members who manned the stand!!

Thanks also to the team for allowing me space to sleep in the cottage after Snoozebox let us down with the accommodation at the event site. Therein lies a separate story…

Best wishes

Roger Mead, Club ChairmanBig Grin

Anglesey in November, the team did an amazing job!

I am seeing lots of romantic pictures being posted of sunset the evening before which does not tell the story of just how biblical the weather was on Sunday, none of the pictures can relate the force of the wind and the stinging nature of the rain - ultimately it became so awful that it forced an early end to the day.

The guys did incredibly well and it was far from a day at the office for the guys who had raced before so the two Andy’s who went in as race newcomers did an outstanding job!

And not forgetting congratulations to Peter too for also lifting the 1800 cup with Team TWP also, some major challenges to overcome there also.

Champagne

Just a quick note to say how well everyone did over the weekend. Without the support, we wouldn’t have brought the car home in 28th position.
Great drives from the two Andys and Ben (and myself  ). The weather was mildly moist but we kept the car on the tarmac for the whole race - well done.
Here’s to next year1
