Race pipe

Hi I’m a bit confused I have a February 2000 registered mk2 and have got a Malian back box and want a race pipe cat back, looking on tinterweb there’s 2 types one with flanges both ends and one with a flange one end and a ‘slip’ on the other. Which one do I need? Thanks

The original cat fitted to the MK2 was a cat and central box section with flange fitting at both ends to the backbox and front pipe.

Aftermarket replacements are split with the cat and centre box separate. The usual part that needs replacing first is the cat - the old cat is cut off with central box left in place and the new part simply sleeved on. I think the second part you are referring to probably fits straight on to an aftermarket replacement cat and either incorporates the centre box or possibly replaces that with straight pipe.

Look up the Klarius online catalogue. You will need to sign up for it but the exhaust layouts are all there to view.

If you can add links or ebay auction numbers , etc to the parts you are referring to I will confirm.

Hi, thank you these a the links for eBay

These are not cat backs as both require the original backbox. I will warn you that the moment you touch that flanged connection between the centre box and back box, the flanges will disintegrate and the backbox will need to be replaced as well. A catback is exactly that - a part that replaces everything from the cat back.

First part linked to is simply a centre box delete that would sleeve on to the stub of pipe left after original central box cut off or fit to an after market cat.

The second part is misdescribed as is clearly a cat and central box delete that would replace the entire section between front pipe and back box.

I would not touch either of these parts!!

I already have a new back box fitted and yes the flange on the centre pipe to box is now dodgy… one of the reasons I was looking for a cat to back box pipe and wanted the right one Thank you for the information.

Did you fit an aftermarket back box?

Some of the usual ones Have a different flange and flange connecting hole centres to the original part and we are talking about 15 - 20mm here.

Is this your problem? If so let me have the measurement between hole centres of the new back box - I may be able to find an OE spec centre box that will directly fit your new backbox and sleeve onto the stub pipe left after centre box cut off.
