- My model of MX-5 is: NC3
- I’m based near: Portsmouth
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Engine Cooling - Radiator Fan Removal
Hey everyone,
Looking for some guidance on removing the radiator fan from the top on my car. I’ve already removed:
- Air box
- Battery & holder
- Moved the coolant expansion tank aside (without disconnecting hoses)
- Removed plastic under ECU
I don’t want to disconnect any coolant hoses or loosen the radiator.
Background: Bought the car in December—was sitting unused for over a year. A month ago, it overheated in London, so I had it towed home. Replaced the thermostat and coolant.
A few days ago, it overheated again. I removed the above components and found a stray battery hook lodged in the fan, kindly left there by someone who replaced the battery in the past.
I removed it, but the fuse is still blowing. The fan doesn’t seem to spin freely—it seems like it catches something every 180 degrees—even though I can’t see anything obstructing it. Pretty sure I need a new fan.
Has anyone managed to remove the radiator fan from the top under these conditions? Any tips or workarounds?
Thanks in advance!
