Can anyone recommend a water proof cover for my Mk1 that really is waterproof. The one I got from Halfords is ok to keep dust and bird droppings off the bodywork but the thin fabric allows the water to go thro’ the fabric and holds the water on the cars surface, which for me is worse than not having a cover on at all. At least when the car is waxed most of the water runs off but, not with this cover on, it, holds it onto the car.
I think something just to protect the hood would be sufficient, unless you have to park under trees or getting lots of bird droppings.
Read a few posts about full covers doing more harm than good, not all are going to be bad for the car though.
If the car is waxed regularly and is in fairly good shape not much harm can come to the paintwork left uncovered.
Half cover, just for the hood. Lift regularly to check to air the car for any moisture built up, especially in winter.
This is good to know dude. As I don’t have a garage, I was going to buy a cover to put over it for the winter months, but from what you’re saying it’s not really recommended for cars that live outside for prolonged periods.
I was just doing a little serfing of the 'net to see if I could find a decent hood, and yes you can with a ten year guarantee too, but at a price I didn’t want to spend, ie about £400.
A while ago I read that a few people were asking what they could treat their hoods with to smarten them up a bit. While in my garage I came across some stuff called Greased Lightning- Brilliant Black that I occasionally use to blacken the tyres on my car. Upon reading the instructions etc, it says it is good for vinyl hoods so i tried it on my tonneau cover and it brought it up like new.
We use the sealey covers with the drivers door zip panel for the restorations here, £60’ish.
