Hello folks. does anyone know the thread size and pitch of the nuts and bolts that hold the rear of the roof and the rain rail in place? I’ve just had my soft top replaced on my 94 mk1 and I’m sure they used the wrong nuts. Two of the studs have snapped off which gived the correct torque is hardly enough to snap a KitKat seems odd. I think they used the correct thread diameter but wrong thread pitch. Picture below I hope. I know the nuts were the correct ones when I took it in as when I replaced the rain rail a couple of years ago they just spun on and off with finger pressure, now they don’t move at all.
Should be M6x1.0. Pretty common size.
Hmmmmm 1.5mm thread? If that bolt is the wrong pitch in the picture then King Arthur himself must have put it on. Maybe the car wasn’t ventilated for some time and then somebody changed the roof and snapped them on the way out? That thread does look incredibly shiny though! When it comes to most automobiles There’s only generally 2 thread sizes used: Fine thread or coarse. I think on those bolts the different pitches would be 1mm and 1.5mm, could be wrong. Finer thread is usually for more critical parts. Then again I think everything 10mm doesn’t come in both on mazdas, it’s one or the other.
Still an M6x1.0…
They are locking nuts because they tighten up against “mush” so unless you’re careful, the studs can break.
Yep, that looks pretty mullerd!
