Rain running off the roof into the MX5-RF

Hi all,

New member having recently treated myself to a lovely MX5 RF 2.0 Sport Nav in Soul Red.

I adore this little car, it’s so much fun to drive, however… I have a real bug bear with it.

When there is rain on the roof and you open the door, it literally just runs straight onto the seats…an appalling design fault.

No car I have ever owned has done this.

Do any of you fellow RF owners have any tips to stop it?

Please don’t say a cloth… you’re all far more inventive than that lol

Many thanks

Glen

I have a mk1 and a mk3 and they do the same annoying yes but because they do not have rain rails to channel the water off the roof it will always happen, the amount of times I have forgot and then suddenly remembered when going round a corner getting drenched.

If I am going on a drive knowing I want the window open I have to dry the roof or get wet.

I’ve only ever seen rain rails on fixed top cars, saloons, hatchbacks etc., never on any sort of convertible whether it be rag top or hard top.

It was a nightmare on the Copen too. The boot was worse… at least the MX-5 channels most of the water away.

I carry a brush in the boot of mine.  Gets used when I wash the car and also to give the screen and lights a quick brush between washes.

When my roof is covered in water, I tend to give it a light brush to temporarily push away the worst of the standing water.  That helps.

A brush?

I think you will find they all do it. when we had a hardtop on the MK2 just had to wipe with a soft towel before getting in.

Hi Glen,

This FB group may be of interest to you…

A quick swipe with a silicone blade water clearer would deal with that, and you can shake it dry in a jiffy.

The mohair roof on my NA has an extra bit of material above the doors as a sort of rain rail. It’s quite effective

Something like this would work

Sadly, after a quick search, didn’t find anything ND specific.
