So, I was just watching a YouTube video where a guy in California was forewarning potential future Five buyers about the noise of rain on a soft top. My reaction? I’m Scottish. If I didn’t like the rain, I’d be a very miserable lady. I love rain and I love my soft top. In fact, one of my favourite things is sitting in the car, listening to the rain. It instantly makes me feel very relaxed and content, even if I’m just waiting on someone coming back out of Tesco’s with the shopping (1 in, 1 out policy, don’cha know ). So I’m wondering what are your favourite things about/moments you’ve had in your Fives??
My favorite moment will come at 2pm this afternoon…
I am picking up my brand new ND! May get lost on the way home as 4 miles is too short a trip back from the garage…
Roof will be down (unless its raining - which it should not be), which is the only way to drive.
I’d imagine it’s like being in a tent when it’s raining, love it! I’ve got a folding hard top, so I don’t get to experience it unfortunately.
Laying in bed in our caravan and listening to a downpour- wonderful ! - that is until Mrs M says
‘Waters run out, go and refill the Aqua roll’
The sound of running stream water when out for a walk, wearing -shirt and shorts, with a nice warm sun beating down… usually found at current lockdown sites, so off limits at the moment.
Still dreaming…
What better sound is there than this…! And if you’ve got a watertight MX-5 you’ll get the best car wash possible…!
I suppose that is preferable to “the chemical toilet is full - go and empty it!”
It is certainly pleasant to be able to hear the rain and not be getting wet by it - even if indoors, but I suppose hearing it on the hood gets yo closer still.
Don’t miss that aspect one bit, water fetching and toilet duties.
Sold our 18’ touring van and large estate to buy our first MX-5, a Mk1.
Well it wasn’t purely to buy the MX-5 but I/we needed another thing to fill our leisure time, a sports car was it.
It could have been an MG soft top but curiosity about their reliability and a few searches led me to the Mazda.
Days are made for picnics away somewhere in the MX-5, we miss them ATM.
I tend to agree that the drumming of rain on the soft top is quite soothing.
The sun on ones face with the top down goes without saying.
The sound of birdsong as one drives along a country lane perhaps? The smell of hot grass verges as one bimbles along in the summer.
Top down motoring encompasses more senses than tin top driving in my limited experience.
One thing I’ve found I particularly enjoy is watching the heat haze over the vents in my car’s bonnet. Stange, but true
I have a prht so it is rain on metal for me.
However, I love the sound of the rain falling on and around the car while I drive with the roof down. Last time was on the way back from Cornwall, at 60mph. Not a drop in the car, and my partner remained asleep throughout the downpour.
Congratulations! Bet you had ants in your pants all day Pics please!!
Haha, oh yes, after many hours or treating the soft top and meticulous sill inspections, I can rest soundly in my drivers seat
Only had a fairly short journey home, was playing with the electronics, so did not get the full feelings of the drive. Got some more work to do, but will take it out for a spin later on. Had the roof down on the way home obviously!!!
Gorgeous!!!
Never thought about the heat haze I shall look out for that and report back but can definitely imagine it would be quite hypnotic.
Re; bird song- I was on nightshift last night. Walking around the deserted city streets of Edinburgh at 4am listening to the birds was a balm to the soul!
Quite amazing to think! Wonderful story too
I enjoy that after a night clubbing. EDM followed by bird songs… Sweeeeeeeet!
Hehe, that feeling when you’ve been to the most amazing gig and your ears are ringing all the way home?
