Mercedes 190 2.3-16. Looking in good nick.
Parked up, but saw a nice Ferrari 512 BB yesterday.
Based on condition, it looked like it was used regularly.
It’s odd is it not, how some cars have quickly just vanished off the face of the Earth as time has gone on.
During any one year, I probably visit three or four shows - village shows, agricultural, that sort of thing, and there are generally classic car sections, which, being a bloke are usually quite a delight. You normally see Morris Minors, Ford Cortinas and Capris, perhaps the odd Classic, any number of Minis, sometimes the odd Vauxhall Cresta or Victor, a Sunbeam Rapier or two, and if you’re really lucky perhaps a Mustang: oh and of course a smattering of Jags of various types, and lots of Rovers generally. But despite Vauxhall Victors turning up, I’ve never seen the more exotic of the Victor range at any of these shows - I’m talking VX 4/90 or Ventura here.
I had a VX 4/90 for about five years in the 70s, an FD version, mine being made in 1970. Lovely it was, white paintwork with a blue interior, ‘Rostyle’ wheels, twin Stromberg caburettors, and sports instrumentation. It had to have new front wings in around 1977, and the vinyl upholstery cracked up and split in the sunshine. It was sound as a bell underneath, because of the undersealing, but the upper bodywork was starting to really show its age when I sold it not long after I had the wings done.
In the last twenty years or so, not have I never seen one at a show, I’ve never seen one on the road either. I guess they just weren’t loved enough, by enough people to encourage restoration of an example.
So, not that exotic really, but certainly rare I’d say.
This was the point of this thread, perhaps I should have retitled it. For example I can’t remember when I last saw a mk1 Mondeo or mk3 Cavalier when once upon a time these littered the roads.
Hi Eadwig,
Actually Ford Sierras are pretty thin on the ground too, and as you pointed out about the Mondeos and Cavaliers, they were as common as muck !
I can’t get on with predictive text either - must be an age thing my friend !
Good luck in the rugby tonight. Being an Englishman, I really want you guys to beat the Irish !

Thank you, but I don’t really care for rugby. I’m surprised I haven’t been deported.

Hi Eadwig,
What a fabulously entertaining game of rugby last night. And speaking from an Englishman’s point of view, the ‘right’ result, as it leaves the 6 Nation’s Championship open for us to b****r up this afternoon !
You know, I’ve never heard of a Welshman not liking rugby - now you’ve admitted it, you’d better get ready for the deportation squad’s visit !
Anyway, sorry for waffling on about the rugby, but the real reason for this post is your ‘rare cars’ thing. Since my comment yesterday about the rarity of Vauxhall VX 4/90s in the world of classic cars these days, I have been on the dear old internet, and discovered one for sale at a classic and sports car dealer in Bristol - the same colour paintwork as the one I owned in the 1970s actually. It seems to have been lovingly restored, and is described as being ‘rust free’ (does that mean the buyer won’t be paying for the rust I wonder !). The curious thing though, is that the asking price is over £12,000, which makes the 21st century value of this car, some ten times that of its new price in 1971 !
That’s inflation for you .
Chris.
Mitsubishi FTO.

The prices of some classic cars that once we’re everyday conveyances for many has gone mad. There was a mint Peugeot 205 GTi with about 8k on the clock going for £30k.
