Re: Roof Drain Holes

Managed to locate drain-holes for roof today.  O/S was ok, N/S was so blocked at the top it looked like it had been sealed!  Complete

with Ball-point-pen floating around, with the plastic bit, which have become detached both sides.

I have taken a photo of them to find out the purpose of said bits, but don’t know how to get the photo onto the site, tried copy and paste

with no success!  (and drag and drop).

Would like to thank you all for your help and advice, thanks again TONY and shoestring.

If anyone could advise how to load a photo on that would be great.

Regards - Reg

Reg! Nice name! I’m Reggie after my Dad.

You need a photobucket or flicker account to add your photos to then it will give you a few different copy and paste codes under the photo you need to copy and paste into your posts on here.

Thanks Reggie! (I’m named after my dad too - (get called ‘Reggie’ more often than not!)

Haven’t heard of photobucket and have nothing to do with flicker at present, what’s the

photobucket thing?

Thats photobucket.

[IMG]http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u259/1982rpd/photo-15.jpg[/IMG       <-- Thats essentially the code that you need to copy and paste from photobucket I have left the ] off of the end so you can see the code.

Sorry - that didn’t quite work out.

At last! - These are the bits that were floating around by the drain-holes.  Are they just covers or do they

need to be in place for any reason - don’t know how they’d be put back though, without pulling the car

apart.  If they’re not vital then i’ll leave them out. - Any advice???

Thanks

Reg

They look like the top covers for the seat belt tower .

Those look suspiciously like the covers that should be clipped over the top mounting bolts of your seatbelts. Definately not floating loose blocking up your drain channels! They are mainly decorative so its up to you whether you pop them back on.

Many thanks Davey M and HJ2 - I’ll check that out, but am releived.  One was actually upside down

and the other the right way up which made it look like they were supposed to be down there, so they

must have fallen/or been knocked off to have arrived at that destination - i guessed the ball-point-pen

wasn’t supposed to be down there, so i got at least one thing right. - - So much for main dealers then,

the salesman told me the drain-holes were checked at every service, considering the N/S hole was

full to the top with dirt, i find this hard to believe, as the car was ‘serviced’ ten months ago when i

bought it  (or was it)???!!!

We bought our MX5 from a MAIN DEALER last year and this is what happened to us.

Unbelievable - I told the salesman when i bought mine that i wanted the cam-belt done, he said ‘ok’.  When

i went to collect the car i looked at the service book and there was no sign of it.  When i asked him about it

he said  “yes, it’s been done”, so he wrote it in the book, guess i’ll have to take his word for itConfused

My 5 was on empty when i collected it, they didn’t even put 5 litres in, i wouldn’t deal with them

again, nor will i have any servicing or anything else done through them - Ever!

Perhaps you could try going through the service department and asking them if the cam belt had been changed. they should have a record if so. The sales person doesn’t kneed to know. Then if you find it hasn’t been changed you can challenge them and show them the entry in the service book. By the way what area are you in?

I’m in Taunton Somerset - Yes, good idea, probably have to go in though, as when i emailed

the service Dept. about something else they couldn’t be bothered to reply!  Let’s face it, once

the car has been sold the salesman no longer has any interest in it.

Regards - Reg

The salesman may not have any interest but as a company the main dealer should have a reputation that they want to keep. In my case it was the service dept that investigated and they seemed to give me over and above what was required. And yes I think it was to keep me sweet and to keep my mouth shut. I did let it drop that I was a member and a user of this forum. Whether that made any difference, who knows. BTW I bought mine from Exeter

Got a call form the service dept. according to them the cam-belt was done, he asked me if there was any

record of it in the service book and I told him the salesman had written it in when I collected the car, which in my mind

says that if any of us were to sell our cars privately we could write in the service book that this and that had been done.

Not that we would of course.  Perhaps they are more helpful in Exeter!

Many thanks for you feedback.

Glad you got a result, at least it puts your mind at rest. The service dept at Exeter WAS very helpful, but it was the sales person who corrected our service entry ( In front of us ) that originally put a question mark against the validity of it.

Thank you, mind at rest on one thing at least - rear sill-sections to get done, but not going to them to have it done!
