Ready for the Alps

Ski rack works, ready for trip to the Alps in march

I love the idea, but is your underseal rust protection up to the drive?
How is the front rack attached to the car?

Sounds great!
May I ask “what is your route”???

Cars quite rusty underneath and arches need doing anyway, have another one which I’m currently rebuilding and plan to do this one when other is finished. Not sure of route yet, usually just follow Google maps (with the odd check that it’s not sending us in completely the wrong direction ).
Rack bolts to where pegs for hard top are, remove peg and set screw behind it and you have an m8 stud and m8 threaded hole to use on each side.

Should be a ball if I were 40 years younger and not terrified of breaking bones I’d be up for just such and adventure.

Look forward to seeing some pics of your journey good luck :sunglasses: :+1:

It’s the missis who needs to be careful she broke both legs last time we went

If it happens again, then good luck getting her back in the MX5.
How strong is the roof rack??

It’s not happening again, but yes it would be a bit tricky.

So you have not set up those skis on the rack for her to do some “wing walking” then?

Reminds me of this. Have a great trip!

‘Wing walking’ might be fun. But probably just scary

Fantastic, what an adventure, like everyone else looking forward to some pictures of the journey!
Wish we were coming with you- I got an ecole du ski Francais 2 Star Ski badge back in 1972!!!

Not as dangerous as skiing though by the looks of it

ENJOY! :+1:
Going back to the Alps in Summer.
Bit of an Alpaholic recently.

Travelling in the Mx5 ?

No, but on lots of fab trains, rack and pinions, funiculars, cable cars and several older iconic chartered trains.

Maybe I will take the MX-5 abroad one day - need a co driver!

You guys have a good time - and no broken bones!

Sounds fun, I used to be a bit of a train geek and just love old machinery and funiculars. Don’t use trains much nowadays though and yes broken bones are off the menu this year.

We’re back home, no broken bones this time !
Car ran like a dream and only took 13 hours to get back.
The French roads make ours look so bad.

Co drivers are over rated.
