Rear bumper removal

  2. I’m based near: bognor
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: _

I’m looking for a step by step guide to removal of the rear bumper if ayone has one. If there is one already in existence can you point me to it

Thanks

Steve

The main nuts will likely be rusted. Eunos Roadsters won’t (mostly) have illuminated rear markers.

Morning Steve
Let me know if the vid above helps,as the vid makes it look like its just a sweep of a magic wand and click of the fingers, i can and will put you a walk through guide together if needed, as i have one partly stripped here i can use if needed.
M-m.

Thanks both.
I shall view and get it up on stands so i can look properly at it.
If the video looks sketchy I’ll come back to you M-m

PS will either of you be at the spring meet next weekend?

Steve

Just a thought. Does the video show the removal of the support beam and the bumper as one unit? It looks as if it does as in the last few frames I cannot see the support beam.

Steve

Hi M-m
Just viewed the video. Izzy wizzy and its done as you say.
I would really appreciate the step by step how to, if its not too much trouble

Thanks again

Steve

One I did earlier, without instructions, before the forum existed.

Done this 3-4 times over the years/

Disconnect any foglight fitted.
Remove rear mud flaps; not essential, but makes the job easer. 8mm headed screws, usually rusted up. I would use a 8 mm socket, and lots of WD40, but they may well snap.
Raise the car a bit, you are going to crawling under the car at stages.
Remove screws in rear wheel well
1 screw on the underside of bumper, either side. These screws are usually in good condition, but make sure you use the correct JIS screw bit. Note, all these screws are into self tapped plastic inserts, which can break, strip, on an old car.
Easier with the wheels off, but not essential
Remove plastiic clip joining rear wing to bumper in the wheel well. Sometimes it will need cutting off to release
Get underneath, remove 8 nuts securing bumper to chassis. Could be rusted, sometime some are mising
Pull bumper off. It will come off with the support beam attached. It will be heavy, so have something soft for it to fall on.
Not that hard

If you want to remove just the cover, this is the easier way to do it. The other way is to remove the rear finisher, and all that entails.

Thanks,
I’m going to install a rear sensor kit that i have just got whilst in the process
Thanks again
Steve

I did reply but looks like it did not go through, guide being built if still needed from pics taken over the weekend.

Dear mm
I think your article above with pictures is truly excellent.
but i dont envy you with all the rust and ■■■■ falling down. I am fortunate. My 1995 V-Spec was imported after 10 years and was thoroughly undersealed. I know this because this last weekend i fought shy of removing the rear end and just installed the rear parking sensors with bumper on, lying on my back facing skywards without jacking the car up.

I have done a write up of this so if anyone would like me to post it on this forum etc please let me know

Its not mine Ste, its a 1.8 red badge S-spec in laguna blue that is here for re-build for Autolinkmx5, the full renovation is on menders forum to view if anyone is interested.
The condition of the underneath is the norm now and far far worse in many cases i deal with as these get older that we end up washing out of our hair , ears etc.
She was just conveniently sat outside on stands stripped down to nip out and take some pics for a quick guide for you.
I am sure it will help others in the future buddy.
Glad to hear you’re sorted.
