Rear camera

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __Mk 3 2009
  2. I’m based near: __Winchester
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __fitting rear camera internally.
Since as some forum members know I recently had my hood vandalised by my neighbours I have invested in a dashcam to detect movement outside of the car when parked. The unit also came with a rear camera and whilst I know how to wire up the front dashcam to the cigarette lighter I am not sure how I can wire the little rear camera internally on an MX5. Clearly it is really designed to go outside and be wired to the reversing lights for example, but I am more interested in detecting suspicious movement when the car is parked for obvious reasons.
    Can anyone help?
    Michelle.

Hi Michelle - sorry to hear about your problem, a pain the ■■■■ I’m sure, and frustrating.
Dash cams and rear view cameras usually switch themselves off after a while once the ignition is switched off, but not always. The cameras would only record front and back images but maybe not the sides. You might be better with a simple CCTV camera in the house directed at your car if that’s possible.

My reversing camera is under the boot lid between the number plate lights

Mine too.

I’m not suggesting anybody uses the camera system I have, it’s just an example of how easy it is to get slim wires into place in the boot lid without damaging any seals. It also shows the limited view seen by this particular wireless camera, others are better, and positioning is everything.
