rear fog light relay on Mk.2.5

I am having a bit of trouble with the rear fog light, not that I use it much but it is necessary for the MOT.  Does anyone know where the relay is and the colours of the wires leading to it.  I have wiring diagrams but they are for the miata and it seems they do not have rear fog lights in America.  I have located a relay in the boot, behind the fuel filler pipes, set back in the tunnel, wires are red/blue, blue/red, green/grey, red/black, blue/red. lettering on it is B150 DC12v 4CO2.  Does anyone know what this relay is for?  It seems to have too many wires for a fog lamp.  Again not in the diagrams for the miata.  My car has central locking but only on the key [no fob] so I do not think it is a release  for the boot lid.  Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Geoff -

Unable to access my car at the moment, so can’t confirm exact location of fog light relay, but it’s either in the main fuse panel at lower right of the dash, or it’s up above behind the dash near the steering column, where there are several relays fixed to the dash underframe. You need to check the fuse first (and the fog light bulb) as either may have blown, Fuse should be in above fuse panel - check the inside of the cover for location…

Wire colours should be: Feed from fuse - Violet/Yellow (also connects to fog light switch): Feed out from relay to fog light - Brown/Yellow: Feed out from fog light switch to relay coil - Yellow: Negative from relay coil to earth - Black.

Without a major search, not sure what the relay you refer to is for - it’s neither associated with the aerial or the heated rear window, but if you really want to know I’ll look through the schematics I have for the 2.5 and let you know .

HTH?

 Gerryn.

Thankyou very much for the information.  I have located the relay  above the steering column, wire colours are as you specified, trouble seemed to be a poor contact in the relay plug, cleaned all contacts and everything is fine now.  If you could let me know the function of the relay in the boot I would be most grateful.

        Thankyou once  again,   Geoff Peace.

Geoff - you’re welcome- always pleased to help if I can.

Puzzled about other relay - a quick scan through the schematics only shows two devices around that area, one is the electric aerial (no relay) and the other says Passenger Side Pre tensioner - Seat Belt, which only has two wires and the colours aren’t the same. I may have to search by wire colours, but that won’t be easy - if you don’t hear more (don’t hold your breath) then I gave up!

regards

Gerry

Thanks for trying Gerryn,  I have looked allthrough the wiring diagrams for the miata and no relay anywhere near the boot with five wires connected.  Only thing I can think of is it could be a changeover realay, hence five wires, the only thing to need the current reversed in the boot area would be the aerial.  Does anyone know if Mazda fitted a reay for the aerial for the 2004 model year?       Regards   Geoff  Peace.

I can’t answer the question
directly, but, can you hear the relay operating as the aerial is
raised and lowered?

Thanks for the suggestion but the relay is deep in the tunnel and the mechanical sound of the aerial going up and down cancels out any sound from the relay  I suppose I could unplug it and see what does not work  but I do not like to upset things with all the complicated electronics on cars today.  I will find out one day!

     Regards to all Geoff Peace.
