Rear view mirror, again

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2014 NC Venture 2.0
  2. I’m based near: S. London
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: (i) the rear view mirror, is the button with the little green light merely decorative, or is it meant to do something, because mine doesn’t seem to; (ii) I think the silvering in the mirror is wearing off, as the glass looks like it has been sprinkled with talcum powder and the rear vision, especially at night, is disappointing. How tricky / expensive is it to get / fit a new OE mirror?

It’s an anti glare mirror, press the button and it gives you a dimmed view to the rear.
I have used mine once, I think it worked in the daylight.

Not sure if it’s an electrochromic auto dimming function?
