Rear Wing removal and replacement

Hi all,

As part of my long winded Rocketter build I have found an old repair on the rear wing. Fortunately, it’s not a rust repair but was badly filled by a previous owner when trying to repair a dent by the looks of it.

Rather than re-fill the dodgy repair i’d rather replacde the whole wing with a good substitute.

However, I can’t find much help online, which I am assuming means it is a pig of a job!

has anyone done this before?

I don’t have welding equipment so if thats a prerequisite then i’ll have to give filler a go!

Thanks in advance

Youn will need to weld a new rear wing on . Plus you will need to drill the spot welds to remove the old one.

The only way for it to be right, is to cut it off and weld a new section in for you piece of mind buddy.

I’ve seen owners replace the entire wing with Mazda OE rather than an after market patch panel. The repairers seem to struggle to replicate the body sealing visible from the boot opening. So it will always be obvious there is a repair. An S-Limited I had had a dent repair done when it was imported in 2004. 10 years on, when the car was being resprayed, the dent repair had become a rust hole through both the outer and inner wing.
