Recently bought my first MX5 NC1

Where all four tyres on the car wear badly on the left edge…

Yes, maybe there is a special wheel alignment for that:thinking::joy:

With mine even slightly spirited driving has the TC going bonkers as i don’t think the tires are up to par for the car, and the spin i had was definitely due to my turning off the TC and a boot full just to see what it would do and learn the car thus why i chose time and place i did due to it all being quiet.

A good way to explore parameters.

I’d be interested in having a conversation to Dan! The renewal is due on my 2009 NC in February and would be interested to see what Adrian Flux can do.

Also welcome to the NC club Zac, it was the best move I ever made! Also we have a red YB08 in the Wessex group.

Enjoy the motor

One of my list of reasons to change my car is to get TC. Does this come in with NC2? At 19, I hope Zac has got it as it does give some warning on the dash that you might think about backing off a bit( I’ve seen it flashing on my TT on occasion )

Welcome Zac! Your experience with insurance wildly swinging for strange reasons will apply to more than just the younger members. Did you change to the original exhaust?

Hi,

My car although being 08, does have Traction Control, its the 1.8s before 09 that dont have any TC. And yes the Cobra exhaust has arrived and I’m very pleased with it, not too loud, not too quiet.

Hi Zac, great to see you’ve bought an Mx5 you will be grinning ear to ear everytime you drive it. I’m Xander, live in MK and I’m 18, I’ve got a mk1 mx5 and wouldn’t mind meeting up at caffeine and machine or something however, my mx5 is in storage rn but I should be driving it early next year. Have you got an Instagram account for your mx5 at all? Mine is called yukiandseb if you wanna connect.

I Put brand new tyres on my Nd 3, It was raining when i came out of the garage. At the first roundabout i gave it a bit of throttle and instantly 360’d in the middle of the roundabout mid rush hour. I was amazed i didnt hit anything at all, not even the kerb.
New tyres need a bit of bedding in.

And the make of the new tyres?

I didn’t even try such things on my new goodyears last month; cowrad that I am. However, your experience make me wonder why tyre dealers don’t remove that release compound with a bit of emery cloth?

Supplementary: did you have TC switched on?

Hi Xander,
I woukd Definitely be up for that, I’m sure itd be alot of fun to talk to more mx5 people. And I will deffo give your IG a look.
Zac

I can second this. I bought my 2019 ND 1.5 this year from a dealer.
My cursory check of the tyres reassured me they had loads of tread left.

Unfortunately now I have the leisure to look properly the Yokohamas it has are cracked and feathering on the edge of the tread where it blends into the wall. Turns out they are older than the car!

It’s going for a service next month and will get a new set before I put my foot down too hard in the wet.

Check the alignment as well!

Tyre pressures? I never trust a garage with tyre pressures.
