Recommendations for insurance for my 5 that I want to lightly modify?

Hi there guys.

For some context, I’ve had my 5 for almost a year and will be looking to take out another year’s insurance at the end of October. I’ll be 20 years old with 2 years NCD.

I’m hoping to do some light modifications including:

  • Anti-roll bars (front and rear) - to reduce body roll.
  • Roll bar (half cage) - to stiffen the chassis and protect my head if I somehow find myself upside down.

I may down the line (if time and more importantly money permit it) do some more stuff like big brakes and turbo etc. but for now I’m just focused on the two I’ve listed above.

I appreciate that anti roll bars are 100% blaggable, but it’s the half cage I feel I’ll struggle with. I tried to get a quote with my current provider (churchill) and they refused outright.

I’m also looking at getting some kind of diesel estate in the near future, so if there’s any multi car exclusive deals out there, they’re not out of the question.

If anyone has had any experience with insurance companies that are likely to not instantly turn me away with a half cage, then please let me know.

Try Peter James?

I am trying with them too since I am getting work done on my MX5.

Interesting you are going for new better specification anti-roll bars. Some say they are not needed.

I’m with hagerty insurance for my turbo NA.

Do they cover the cars market value or the value you declare?

Thanks.

I have an agreed valuation.

OK will check them out. Are their quotes reasonable?

Hi.
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you wish.

Dan.

Hi. I went to Lancaster Insurance and they were good. Have 5 cosmetic modifications (all Mazda mods) and use the car for everyday. I’m 58, loads of no claims, but nobody else was remotely helpful.
