- My model of MX-5 is: MX-5 Homura
- I’m based near: Sheffield
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: a reliable franchised Mazda dealer nearby.
Vertu Mazda in Sheffield?
Thanks Robbie, unfortunately they’re the dealer I’m wanting to avoid. I picked the car up brand new from them, badly prepped with surface scratches, un-removed film in the interior, wonky number plates and a dent in the offside rear wing. Doesn’t inspire confidence and when they want the car for a full day for a simple software reprogramme, I really don’t fancy leaving it with them and risking further damage.
I hadn’t had a problem with them over the previous three years ownership of my last MX5, but changing from Burrows to Vertue seems to have dropped their standards.
Mazda Beechwood at Derby have been okay with me on service and recalls, used them a few times now.
On one visit the courtesy car I was suppose to have didn’t come back in, so they put me in a brand new Suzuki Swift demonstrator. Same thing happened at Perry’s Mazda Mansfield and I ended up having to wait around whilst the work was done they wouldn’t offer me a demo car.
Many thanks for the info, it is much appreciated. Not at all easy to find decent main dealers these days.
Best regards,
Ian
You could go to Perrys Mazda Barnsley. Not too far from Sheffield.
Apologies for the late reply, but thank you Paul. Do you have personal experience of using Perry’s in Barnsley please? I’m really looking for a main dealer where people can recommend based on personal experience. That’s sadly something I can no longer do for Mazda Sheffield now they have been taken over by Vertu.
Hey there. Well I am a bit biased, but I am actually one of the technicians at Barnsley Mazda. We have no issue with customers waiting for updates/recalls to be done.
As a MX5 enthusiast myself, I always take extra care of the cars. But I understand the issues people have with main dealers ![]()
Hi Paul,
Thanks for declaring your bias, and that’s fine. Do you happen to know roughly how long this recall for reprogramming is likely to take?
Kind regards,
Ian
I had my service last week at MKG3000 Mazda Twickenham and they did the recall at the same time of service. It’s supposedly a software update, so not to long.
The reprogramming for the Mazda MX-5 (ND) parking assist recall is likely to take a few minutes to an hour at the dealership. Mazda dealers have been instructed to reprogram the SAS control module with improved software. The affected vehicles are all variants of the Mazda MX-5 (ND) from 2023-2024.
Many thanks for taking the time to reply Chris, much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Ian
Yes I agree with this. Doesn’t take too long at all. If you call to book the car in, you can request to wait for it.
Hi Paul,
We had a drive out to Perry’s this morning and booked the car in for Tuesday morning at 8:30am. I believe you’ll be performing the re-programming, so it would be nice to say hello in person if possible.
Many thanks,
Ian
Sorry for only sending this now, i haven’t been on this forum in a while. I wanted to say that it was lovely meeting you when your car came in. Your car is definitely one of the cleanest NDs we’ve ever worked on. make me scared to even sit in it haha. I hope i’ll get to see you and the car again in the future ![]()
Cheers Paul,
It was great to meet you too, and we were really pleased to be dealt with so quickly and efficiently, especially after Burrows wanted the car all day for what turned out to be a 20 minute job for you.
I don’t think you can beat the feeling of driving along in a lovely clean and beautiful car!
Yes, it would be nice to see you in future too.
All the best,
Ian
Hi Paul,
I hope you’re keeping well. I know we said we’d look forward to seeing each other again, but I didn’t think it would be so soon! There’s another safety recall on my car, and I wondered if it is likely to be similar to last time as it’s another software issue (too much safety tech at the hands of various governments? My Mk1 didn’t have a deal!). This time it’s the traction control light which could fail to light up, though if I was in need of traction control I don’t think I’d be looking at the dash! Any info on likely time it would take would be welcome if you know please?
Hello there
. The traction light recall is a bit more involved as we update the traction system and replace the ABS module on certain vehicles. If you call up my dealership on Monday and let them know you need the recall we would be happy to accommodate you with a booking . The recall itself doesn’t take that long, about an hour or 2, although it will depend on what other work we have in. But please give us and a call and we will be able to help you.
Hi Paul,
Many thanks for the detailed reply and will do.
All the best,
Ian
