- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Paint
Hi guys
While I have the rear wheels off, I’m looking at brush painting the brake disc inner covers and maybe the inner part of the discs.
Can anyone suggest a cheap and cheerful heatproof black paint that I can apply by brush?
Hammerite standard burnt off the discs after a track session
I’m looking at hammerite bbq paint unless there’s a better suggestion.
Thanks
I did the same on my NC, used a ordinary spray can of black paint. Alternatively if you want a brush on paint Halfords do various colours of heat proof paint including black, reasonably priced too.

I used Hammerite on our previous car which worked well until I did a track day at Croft. Every single spec of paint was fully burnt off every painted surface. The metal left was absolutely spotless.
Having learnt this lesson I have used ‘stove paint’ on the current cars. ( HOTSPOT STOVE PAINT MATT 250ml : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools)
I removed all the discs on the 30AE to paint the hidden areas and used a narrow brush to paint inside the ventilation slots on the front discs. It gives a good finish and appears to be lasting well with no rusting or burning so far.

Here’s a second vote for the stove paint. I used it on the exhaust manifold heat shield under the bonnet, to hide that horrible rough aluminium look.

If you’re happy to spray, we use SIMVHT20D Simoniz Very High Temperature Black Matt paint that’s rated to 800’c, we use it on cast iron in gas burner assemblies. It’s £6 for 500ml rattle can.

Thanks guys.
I think I’ll go for a brush application of stove paint for the brake bits and a can of that high temp Simoniz paint to spray the strut braces when removed from the car.
Thanks again
