  1. My model of MX-5 is: 1.8L Kendo
  2. I’m based near: Oxford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: recommended modifications

Hi all. Sorry if I didn’t use the right topic, but after doing some research I’ve decided that anti roll bars maybe front and rear would be a safe and good idea? also, are there any other modifications that are recommended for both safety and fun?

Thanks for the help

I’d go coilovers first then bushes for original arb’s.

Just my humble input , depends what your wanting from your car really…ie fast road or track

Yellow dot arbs from an RX8 are a great first step, with new poly bushes on them. Should be around £100 for used arbs and new bushes.

As your car will now be at least 9 years old it’ll be worth replacing the suspension bushes, ideally with stiffer rubber or poly ones.

After that it’s a question of budget …

The new MeisterR Zeta coil-overs will be brilliant if, as rumoured, they’re even better than the previous version. Much better handling with adjustable damping and ride height and actually more comfort, which is a clever trick.

Chances are your wheels are 16". Going up to 17 x 8s with high quality 215/45 tyres will add further grip at the expense of losing some of the daintiness of the car.

I did/ am doing full polybush all round. I have racing engine mounts and polybush diff and made the car vibrate a lot more but feels more ‘direct’ lounder. Gear leaver metal collar. Some decent coilovers. I find even with stock ARB it’s more than enough on roads. You don’t want to send it in the next corner only to find a poor cyclist in the middle of the road. Unless on track, upgraded ARBs are a bit of waste in my opinion.

Is there such a thing as ‘fast road’, or is it just 20-30-40mph speed limits, just like everyone else’s road.

For a road car - poly bushing the engine/transmission/diff mounts is one thing I would not do.

Whilst the extra vibration is acceptable on a race car - I could not stand it in the road car.

And I would never have headers as I can’t stand the noise it makes and probably dislike most of the sports muffles. So each with what they can tolerate. I feel more connected the car.

Unless your living in Norway, where their on 45mph max limits I’m sure theres roads in UK where you could top 40mph …legally

Yes, of course there are higher speed roads (Wales, not sure lol).
Just don’t really know what a ‘fast road’ is? The same roads the neighbour’s Yaris drives on, which soon enough ends being ‘fast’ and goes into a 20.
So I guess if one ‘sets up’ a car for the 1.5 mile of 60mph lane, most of the time behind a Qashqai, then to ender the 15 miles of 30 zones, littered with speed bumps, delivery drivers and pedestrian crossings, so be it :+1:

Valid point , I guess I’m lucky living in Northumberland,.
20 mins of town / urban routes then into countryside.

Yes, fair enough. I’m not that bad where i am too, all things considered.

Morning each, I too wouldn’t go too stiff, I fitted rx8 roll bars to my last nc3.75 and although nice at times it felt too flat! Brakes are the fastest thing imho when I bought my current nc3.75 I cleaned the calipers, pistons nice and shiny, all sliders cleaned and greased.
Hel lines, new fluid and green stuff pads completely transformed the brakes, lovely.
East Yorkshire is the place to be, nice roads, a few potholes but only minutes from the great haunts of North Yorkshire, few fixed cameras and those nice people in blue even post when and where the revenue collection van is going to be. :sunglasses:
