I want to buy a new set of wheel nuts as the chrome on the current nuts is chipped and they are rusting. Are there any good alternatives to the OEM nuts? I don’t want to srimp on an important item like this but at over £4 each on MX5 Parts it could get expensive for a full set.
Would be nice if I could find some in graphite/gunmetal also, but so much stuff on Ebay and not sure about the quality.
Make sure you get wheel nuts of the correct size (12mm, 1.25 pitch). There is a video of a RX7on this forum, where the owner had ordered new wheel nuts from a dealer, but was supplied them is a SAE fitting; they “fitted” and tightened ok, but under power, all of them came off, with catastrophic consequences.
Personally, I think you are going to have to bite the bullet, and buy the Mazda nuts. Don’t discount your local dealer, who may well be cheaper than MX5parts (plus they might even give you some for free).
I haven’t tried to get wheel nuts for my MX-5 but I did source some Stainless Steel nuts off the INTERNET for an MG Midget I used to have. Although they come unpolished it is not a difficult job to polish them up to a very nice shiny nut. If you could find some I could polish them up for you if you haven’t the means or knowledge to do them yourself FOC.
