lightweight but with high emissions and only 2 seats, The 2.0L CX-5 actually has lower emission, believe these are the initial regs and they will change over time and most manufacturers know they will have to offer more Hybrids and EVs to survive anyway but they can’t afford a big hit in the next 2 years.
For all the bleating , cries of ‘it’s not fair’ , whingeing about the EU and attribution of blame for climate change to any source apart from something we enjoy …you 'd have to be pretty self delusional to believe that the internal combustion party isn’t drawing to its inevitable close . Enjoy it while you can- but it’s chucking put time soon …
Agreed, it won’t be long before our hobby if driven by internal combustion is over, better hope that there’s a viable convertible EV before too long, it might be fun…
You’re quit right to be a cynic Chris! Apparently it’s not the farting, it’s the breathing that’s the problem, seriously that what they say, 'cos a dead (or non-existent) cow doesn’t breathe out CO2 !
But do they really think that the number of domestic bovines currently on the planet are more polluting than the total of domestic cattle and the immense herds of millions wild of bovines, North American bison, African wildebeest etc. that roamed the planet 150 years ago before the white settlers drove them to the verge of extinction? No, it’s just another case of shifting the blame to someone/something that can’t answer back. Typical denialist propaganda!!!
When the 1.8 NA was released Mazda then added a lower powered de-tuned 90hp 1.6 NA.
Piece of history #2
In the days of the original 1.6 NA Mazda offered the approved BBR turbo upgrade.
Fast forward to today.
While VW and probably others have been fined for emission scandals this was purely down to the fact that their engines gave unrealistic emission figures under testing but produced significantly higher emissions in the real world.
What’s to stop Mazda producing a 2.0 MX-5 with very low emissions. Make it the lowest emission MX-5 ever. Might be under 100php but who cares. Low emissions under testing, low emissions in the real world, low emissions for every single 2.0 MX-5 that is sold and drives off the forecourt.
Won’t be a particularly exciting car but if they offered a ‘performance pack upgrade’ that could be fitted to used cars that would do the trick. Buy your new car, drive it around the block and then plug it into the computer and reprogram the ECU. Job done.
Before you say this can’t be done think of Tesla. Bought the lower performance model and decided you want more power? Call Tesla, pay for the upgrade and next day there is a whole load more power in your car. Upgraded overnight via software update.
Hardly! The Fiat is no longer available! And see post #569 by TBKB in the “Who is getting a 30AE” thread for a link to the Mazda 2020 MX5 catalogue. it has both engine sizes.
Is it? I apologise most profusely! Also my sympathy to anyone who buys one! Get a 30AE if you can, pre-registered or otherwise, they’re highly discounted and very special!
I was very interested in buying one before choosing my 30 thAE
i pursued this , but found out by the head honcho at Mangoletsie that they bought the entire uk stock in March as there was a massive dealer incentive and sold them on to other garages up and down
you might still find a ‘19’ plate with delivery mileage
in September I could only find 3 or 4 with 50 to 2000 miles on clock
I have just bought a 2 litre ND and was told that it would be difficult for them to supply a new car in the spec i wanted as they had temporarily stopped making the 2 litre. I settled for a pre registered 2019 model with 500 miles on it for just under £6000 less than the price new. Complete bargain as it even smells new still and has full warranty. I hope they keep supplying the 2 litre in 2020 as it gives perspective buyers a much larger choice in spec and of course an LSD.
My second car is a BMW 330D and it has never chucked out clouds of black anything even under hard acceleration. The inside of the tailpipe is as shiny clean as the outside so not all diesels emit clouds of black smoke.
I wonder if it will make the forecourt drive off new price will devalue less now then mind you I got the top spec with extras thrown in on a 2019 2.0 GT RF sports pack + for 24k which I thought was a good deal
But the inconvenient truth is that diesels pump out less CO2 than petrol equivalents - which is why we were encouraged , en masse, to buy them . Old diesels are often pretty disgusting things , especially when modified (I often can smell the reek some tragically pumped up old Discovery before I see the cloud of malodorous smoke ) but new ones are pretty clean machines, for IC engines anyway
Could someone explain to me why Mazda would have to pay fines to the EU on cars sold in the UK after we leave the EU on 31 Jan. The cars meet EU emission standards and are EU compliant. I would be very surprised if the EU accounting systems could account for a few thousand 2.0 ND models being sold in the UK. Surely Mazda could export the cars directly to the UK rather than via Europe.
Are these “fines” paid up front or in arrears and what would happen if the manufacturers refused to pay all or part of them?
