Refurbing Steering Wheel - Leather or Alcantara?!

Hi All,

Going to have the wheel done by royal steering wheels but I cant make up my mind what to go for!

Initial plan was to go perforated leather with thumb grips on the sides and nappa top & bottom, but having seen some of the alcantara ones, my mind is being turned, however I’m clueless about how the alcantara is to use daily - does it wear easily, is it comfortable etc?

My driving is about 20% town, 40% a & b roads and 40% motorway.

Intrigued to hear views!

Cheers!

I’m about to do the same - slightly thicker perforated leather with thumb grips on the sides and nappa top & bottom.

I’ve heard that alcantara/suede can soon look horrible from moisture/oils from your hands, however only having it top & bottom it may not be such an issue.

I agree with Vaughan, go for the Nappa leather top and bottom. It will eventually go shiny due to the moisture/oils in your hands but will still look good compared to Alcantara. I had my wheel done by RSW about 18 months ago and it still looks new although I only do a few thousand miles a year in the car. One thing’s for certain, you won’t be disappointed with the quality of workmanship with RSW

Yeah the longevity of the material is my main worry about the alcantara - looking like the original leather plan is the way to go

Alcantara is nice to start with, give it a few years(or less) of sweaty hands and it looks horrible and you will be recovering it.

Leather it is then! Cheers!
