Regular Maintenance Questions (Fuel Filter/Gearbox Oil/etc.)

Hi all,

I am looking to service my 2016 2.0 ND1 soon but I want to see what else might need servicing/replacing. I bought the car back in December and have only changed the engine oil/filter so far as everything else was done by the previous owner (gearbox + diff were done at 100k km). Currently the car is at 150k km.

I have already learned that these don’t really have a cabin filter, and that the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly. Would I be correct in saying that the fuel filter on these is run to fail and is not serviceable without replacing the fuel pump too? Should I be considering getting this done if it’s not showing any obvious issues?

Then for the gearbox fluid, would OEM be recommended for the manual transmission or are there any aftermarket brands that people recommend (based in Ireland/EU)?

The spark plugs were done at 137k km. I know I should inspect and clean the water drain filters soon to be safe. The diff should be alright for another while. Engine oil/filter, air filter, coolant and brake fluid will be getting replaced soon.

Is there anything else that would be recommended to be replaced?

Thanks,
Jay

I would follow this service schedule -https://owners-manual.mazda.com/gen/en/mx-5/mx-5_8fl9ee16j/contents/07020100.html

Brake fluid should be replaced every other service and I wouldn’t touch the fuel pump but have no knowledge of any issues to say for sure.

Likewise not heard of any problems in this area.

Fuel pump is fix on fail.

For the gearbox id recommend Millers CRX 75w/80 NT+ (3 litres for a 2.1 litre fill)
For the diff Millers CRX 75w/90 NT+ (1 litre for a .6 litre fill)

Clutch fluid should be changed with the brake fluid (they share the same reservoir)
