Remap after a 2.5 swap

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2008 2.0 Sport
  2. I’m based near: Coventry
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: ECU remapping after a 2.5 swap

So, my lovely NC has been diagnosed with rod knock. Suspected it for a while, but I bought it cheap. I decided I didn’t want to scrap it, I’m way too invested now and I’m just finally getting it the way I like it. So I started looking around for a 2.5 swap. Really liked the option from Roddisons, but just don’t have the cash for a brand new built up engine, plus he wouldn’t be able to fit it till June. However, Nippon have a Japanese 2.5 in stock with only 33k on the clock and can fit it next week. So I’m doing that!

I was due to have the engine remapped tomorrow as I have a full BBR exhaust fitted and also a Ram Air Induction system on it. I asked the guy if he would be happy to still do the remap after the engine swap and he said no. Fair enough. So I’m now looking for someone who can do a custom tune for me. I don’t mind where they are, so long as they have a dyno. After looking through the forums, I came up with a few names, but they all seem to be out of business now :frowning:

So has anyone done this? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Give Alex at Performance Link a call.
They’re between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury and know MX5s inside out. Great guys to do business with.

Why not ring BBR and see if he would be willing to do as they have mapped plenty of 2.5.
If not try Northampton motorsport. I have used them twice on my previous cars, not MX5s in fairness, but both were absolutely spot on.
I have also used Noble Motorsport in the past on another past car of mine and they were good to.
I’m sure there’s plenty of others but had personal experience with both of these with great success👍

Thanks for the comments - also had a few PMs too. I gave Alex at Performance Link a call this morning. He really is a goldmine of information. He’s given me a list of things to check with Nippon, but he is happy to Dyno and map the car after they’ve fitted the engine for me. So I’m super happy, seems to be turning out well!

Yep, another recommendation for Performance Link here :+1:t3:

Glad to hear everything seems to be slotting into place for the swap :chequered_flag:
