I’ve been having major issues with installing remote locking on my mx5 and here’s my problem.
so I am running an aftermarket module hooked up to my 12v hazards wire and it is working perfectly when I plug in an actuator it works. Well, the general premise of what I need to do is to tap into the already from factory actuators in the car with the aftermarket module. This means i need to hook up the aftermarket module to the lock and unlock wires well I’ve looked at the Haynes manual and have tried to hook up the wires but nothing, I’m not sure if it’s possible to tap into the pre-existing wires or do I have to do something else?
I did a bit of research after the fact of trying to tap into the wires under the wheel and was told I could use this module https://imgur.com/a/RI0u22x as some cars already have it installed or have the wires for it, I have taken a good look int behind my glove compartment and there is no module or wires I can tap into. What can I do im kinda stuck?
No problem with MK1 and MK2 but the MK2.5 is more complicated, even the most basic model.
I guess you do not have the facility for the factory remote system ie. remote unit, Visteon 41607 fitted behind glovebox? Regrettably a common scenario with the MK2.5, even up to 2005 and more often 1.6 models.
Car has a factory installed alarm and central locking, so installation of an aftermarket system will in my opinion clash with the factory remit. Hope I’m wrong but you do appear to have proved the theory.
Sounds like you have a car which has central locking but without remote control. You also have an aftermarket kit for fitting remote central locking to a vehicle without central locking.
You should be able to connect the new control box to the existing switch wiring which will probably on the drivers door only. This will give you a switched output on the new control box but these need to be connected to the actuator mechanism in the doors. So all the wiring to switches and actuators on the car need to be moved from the existing module wherever that is to the new module.
Really need to know what aftermarket kit you have and also what model of MX-5 you have.
Most aftermarket kits have the following wiring.
Red - +12V
Black - Earth to module and switch common
White - Switch wire Lock
Brown - Switch wire Unlock
Blue - Actuator wire
Green - Actuator wire
Where you have gone wrong is that you have bought the wrong kit. The kit you have bought is to fit remote central locking to a vehicle without central locking. What you needed is a kit to add remote operation to existing central locking.
