Remote locking

 Hi all

Fairly new to mx5 ownership having bought a 2001 model in December last year but thouroughly enjoying it. Having owned an MGF before I can honestly say the 5 is so much more fun to drive, not having to constantly worry about the head gasket is a huge bonus too. My question is, would my 09/2001 mx5, I assume its a mk 2.5, be fitted with remote locking as standard? I bought it at auction and it came with one transponder key and no remote fob. I have managed since to purchase a fob, visteon 41703, through a breaker and have followed the instructions to programme it but it does nothing. I can lock the car with key and it locks both doors but no lights flash to tell me its locked. Any help would be appreciated,

Karl

Hi there

I have a mk2.5 from 2001 and on mine it has central (and super) locking but no remote locking. The lights don’t flash when locking.

If the headlight has three lenses - it’s a mk2.5.

 Hi,

Thanks for reply. Yep mine has 3 lenses on headlight so thanks for confirming as 2.5. Sorry but whats super locking?

Karl

It’s when you flick the key to the “lock” position twice within two seconds. You will hear it activate another servo. This means the doors are “super” locked and can’t be opened even from the inside.

Not sure what advantage this really has, but the feature is mentioned in the owners handbook.

Also worth knowing is that the boot can be deadlocked (inactivates the boot release lever in the cabin)  by turning the boot key to the left.

super locking =  i was told by mazda salesman when i bought mine, that its so that if anyone ever slashed the hood or broke a side glass, to get in, they still couldnt enter the vehicle by reaching in, and using the door lever to open a door,

Thanks for your help guys. One remote back up for sale and a lesson learnt.

I would have thought they could release the roof latches, open the roof and jump in…but hopefully the immobiliser would stop them driving off.

i think that the super locking term was used, so that the entry doors could not be opened, even from the inside, just to make entry more difficult,

It’s to stop the kids opening the back doors, child locksShock now be honest does anyone use this feature??? because to be honest, it would either be attacked with a knife or a screw driver anyway, alarm and immobilizer is the one to push them onto someone elses motor.

Double (super) locking electronically deactivaes the mechanical unlock feature of the doors. Great additional security device I think.

But it’s a rag top car, dead easy to get into, regardless of a super duper lock system, i just do not see the point of it.

i think the points being missed, robbies right, for just pipping the remote twice, it certainly gives me additional piece of mind, making it just that bit more difficult to break into my car, thats got to be a bonus with a sports carlike ours.

I am not missing any point, it is a soft top roadster, not a solid roof, press the fob in the super secret way , and lets see just how long it stops me from getting into the roadster without an alarm fitted, just like every little light fingered snot out there(hammer and knife and may be a screwdriver)

Are you selling your 41703 then, if so I would be interested.

 Hi Phil

Sorry stuck the remote on Ebay. Still there if your interested but wouldnt stop auction as already a bid on it. Other alternative try emailing the mx5 car breakers on ebay, thats how i got this one .

Karl

Hi Karl

Yes, saw it after I posted.  I might have a bid.

I agree.  The car is not going to be a great deal of use to anyone if they cannot open the doors or the boot.  Yes they can steal anything in the car, just do not leave anything of value in the car.

How would I get the instructions for programming a new remote for my car please ?

Already has remote locking but the remote controller was given to me held together by sellotape when I bought the car (last month).

Any help appreciated thanks.

hi addict     this is how i programed my spare transponder. for MX5  NA / NB  it looks difficult, but even i had great satisfation, carrying out the instructions below, and finding that it worked.

begine with key out of ignition.

close both doors

open the drivers door, keep it open.

perform the next step within 24  seconds.

1  insert key into ignition,

2  turn key to ON and OFF position.

3  repeat step  2  two more times for a total of  three  on and three off key turns.

4  remove key from ignition.

5  push drivers door frame button three times, ( its the black rubber button located on the drivers sidedoor frame, to let you know your doors open ).

at this point the door should automatically lock and unlock, to let you know that the car is in programing mode,  ( if this does not happen, wait 50 seconds and re-start from the beginning.

all existing and new remote transponders   ( one at a time ) need to be re-programed at this time, push any button on each remote two times, the door actuator should lock then unlock,  or a chime will sound  signaling that the vehicle has accepted the new transmitter code.

finaly, close the drivers door, and test the remote transponder s, (make sure you have keys handy, just in case.

good luck,  but really, you dont need luck following the instructions above.  Wink
