If it’s any consolation, there was a generation of BMW 3 Series (probably the E46; it wasn’t particularly well built) where the airbags could go off if you hit the wrong type of pothole.

For the ND I have tested the resistance and 1.5 ohms is all that is required.

I used an SRS Assist Resistance Emulator which I purchased on Ebay!

I’m not defending Mazda or the legislators here, but the idea behind the active bonnet is to reduce the damage to a pedestrian’s head when it hits the bonnet at the point where the front of the top of the engine is directly underneath.

I think that if you are hitting your head hard enough on a bonnet to hit the engine underneath as well then you aren’t going to be in great shape anyway.

True but the idea is that the deployed bonnet gives more space for the aluminium to bend and buckle and absorb some of the impact before the pedestrians body impacts the solid engine block.
