Is there anyone out there can advise re a ‘quick and safe’ method to remove my camshaft oilseals. Is there a special tool available? I’ve tried very carefully to encourage them out but i’m worried about damaging the camshaft or recess by being heavy handed. These seals are in good and tight. I’m getting just a little frustrated.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You could remove the camshaft front bearing caps for better access. You need to apply some silicon sealant to the cylinder head in the areas where the bearing caps slot in before replacing the caps.
Just did mine. Careful use of a slotted screwdriver dug them out without touching the metalwork. Make sure you lubricate them well before fitting… Dont worry about damaging the plastic of the seal, they are going to be binned anyway…

Thanks guys - will go at it again at weekend. Tilly - I take it yours were leaking or just part of a rebuild?
Hi, I had this problem a few weeks back, I think I found a video on You Tube. I drilled a very small hole into the metal casing of the oil seal and then screwed in a self tapper. I could then pull out the original seal very easily.
Thankyou - better access achieved! Just a bit cautious now re the sealant. Manuals are unclear. Does the sealant go between the 2 faces of the cap and the head like a gasket, or just along the edge?
Thanks again.
Its part of a cambelt change… have a look at the cooling leak thread, Ive posted a few pictures.
I didnt use any sealant, and the seals were not leaking…
If you use a self tapper, you dont need to drill a hole first, it will go in the plastic quite easily
Put some sealer between the 2 faces of the cap and the head.
