Removing nasty Wax from plastics

can any suggest any methods for removing the nasty horrible wax the dealership put on my 5. so my cart is looking amazing ATM with claying and glaze etc and soon to be polished with my new DA

Can any help me remove the nasty white residue from the dealership being heavy handed when applying teh horrible white nasty wax from the black plastics.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Hair dryer to warm wax and blot with microfibre

  • scrub with detailing brush and washing up liquid solution (worked quite well but not lifted all of it) also yes washing up liquid shouldn’t be used but I’m desperate here

  • Interior cleaner

  • exterior cleaner repeatedly

  • trim dressing hasn’t made it less noticeable either

so now I’m asking for any methods you guys may have as its around my plastic trims in  the grain and on the rubber seals and it drives me crazy. I’m close to getting her near perfect but this is dramatically letting her down.

Thanks

Ben.

Hi Ben, peanut butter? I had a similar issue a while back, before I had the car wrapped and this was suggested to me. I cannot guarantee it will work as I used a combination of everything from baby oil, peanut butter, back to black trim stuff, eventually got it sorted.  Worth a try though. I now use something called pink sheen from www.spotlesssuplies.co.uk. Off the bay of E, cheap and very effective on the large expanse of vinyl Carbon wrap on my car. No residue when applied.  Recommended by Roadie on here, best value stuff I’ve bought!

missed a S off the link

still not working but search spotless supplies on google mate

Use tar remover and a tooth brush and follow that with some All Purpose cleaner and then wash it and dry it

Cheers Barrie I cant see how that cleaner would be any better than the stuff I use already, The peanut butter one is interesting idea though cant say im over keen on teh idea of putting bird and squirrel attractor on my car but if all else fails who knwo might we worth a try thanks.

The Tar remover I have is very dangerous on plastic trims as its very aggressive can you suggest a product please

So they didn’t PDI your car properly, take it back and make them do it again.

Having said that they obviously don’t or can’t be a**** to do it properly.

Its not horrendous but really annoying me. and I’m not taking her back as it looks better now than when they sold it to me.

I’ve not tried it myself…yet.

Nice I liek that Idea and I have a pencil rubber/ eraser at home so will let everyone know which one I find to work.

Please do, Ben.

I have a similar problem with white polish/wax around the front number plate and fog lights and I can’t shift it either.

Well Gents after the realisation that I had a pencil eraser in my draws here at work I just ran outside to give the eraser method a go. Well it does work. And quite well, although now I need to rinse of all the spent parts of the rubber.

I wasnt very careful as I tried film it for you and see an honest go at it i wasn’t sure it would work. and it makes me think now that it may remove wax where I’ve touched the body work. I’m quite impressed with the results.

neat trick !!

That has got to be in the shortlist for the quickest ever video response on this forum

Looks a really good result; that is precisely where I have white marks, along with the fog light surrounds.

I too will have a go with an eraser; thanks for posting the vid

It may sound daft but peanut butter is the cheapest and best I have ever used, plus I can eat whatever is left over.

Smooth variety obviously.

I will let you know how I get on with the rest of the car. but the best thing atm work has paid for my solution as I’ve relinquished the eraser until I have completed my car :)

Turtle Wax “Black Chrome” works very well for me. It completely hid a small scratch in the faux carbon fibre interior door trims on my ND as well as removing wax residue from textured/smmoth black bumpers etc.

Turtle Wax “Black Chrome” works for me. It even hid a small scratch on the faux carbon fibre interior door switch panel trim on my ND. It works great at restoring the colour to textured and smooth black plastic trim.

My wife returned home in her NC and thought that I had finally lost it as I marched out the house armed with an eraser…

As per Ben’s video, the polish over run on the black plastic around the front number plate and fog lights has now gone
