How easy is it to remove the complete roof ? I want to create some space so I can install a roll bars and don’t really want the roof in the way while I am doing this.
It’s dead easy. Just undo loads of bolts and pull it off. Shouldn’t take more than an hour.
That said I wasn’t going to be refitting mine, so I wasn’t being careful.
Not too hard.
First, if your car has one, remove the cabin brace bar.
Remove the plastic trim panels on either side behind the seats.
Go to the rear of the hood next and after “unpopping” the parcel shelf carpet, Remove the 13 (I think) 10mm nuts that hold the three roof clamping sections in and remove the three sections.
Pop the rear of the soft top and the rain channel off the 13 threaded studs sticking out of your rear bulkhead.
Carefully fold the roof down and look for the 2 bolts and 2 nuts that are in holes behind the interior trim you removed earlier.
If I remember correctly, you loosen the nuts and remove the bolts. Once you’ve done this you can lift the whole soft top and frame out in one piece.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much. Undone most of them but just the ones under the trim by the seat belt bolts to go. While they have to use another fitting for the screws I’ll never know !!
3 bolts either side 12mm head
It is also easier if you remove the seats first ,to have more room so you can attack the roof removal
Hi Simon, very glad your new cage arrived for you in good condition, it took a lot of wrapping…
Lots of photos of the install when it goes in please?
Tthe only difficult bit is judging where to cut-out the holes in the rear parcel shelf for the rear members to go through to the boot floor correctly, the RS Limited that it came out of was a real mess in this area but with a bit of calculating and careful chain-drilling and carpet cutting you should be able to get a much better finish
Don`t forget to very carefully clean out the water drain tubes while the soft-top is removed, any probs give me a ring?

The bars are mostly in place but need a right angled drill attachment to drill the rear bars in place. I’ll take some photos tomorrow.
Only had to remove a small piece of the parcel shelf on one side and ‘shape’ a small part on the other side. My calculation did go a little awry on the side where I needed to cut !!
Drain pipes cleared, remember not to stand with your feet directly beneath the tube when you poke a coat hanger down !!
Do you remember Dr Eunos if the car had any plates underneath the car where the bolts came through ? The drill came through on an uneven part of the floor so I’m going to have to make some plates up I think.
I cant remember any plates on the bottom side of the floor but it would be a good idea to get a few made up locally to help spread the load, 4mm would be ideal. You will really notice the rear end of the shell stiffening up a massive ammount once it is all bolted-up tight, can
t wait to see how it looks in your car
Cheers,
Dr. Eunos
