I have just done this on my Mk1. I have done a brief write up with some photos and will post it on the technical area for anyone whose interested in the next week or so.
I haven’t found any write up on this process and the Haynes manual doesn’t touch it.
I will have the old original trim and the retain clips if someone wants them
