Replacement aerial?

Hi folks,

I’m looking for recommendations to replace the existing standard aerial on my Mk4 RF.

I’ve had my car vandalised twice and thinking a stubby aerial would be a good choice to replace the normal 40cm aerial.

Only concern is when I look on MX5parts.co.uk the replacement they stock doesn’t get good reviews - poorly fitting to the body work as the base is smaller than the standard one.

Any help or clues from the experts on here?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

This is the one that fits and is currently on a sale price.

Merry Xmas!

I went for the cheaper of the two stubby aerials offered by MX-5 parts and have no hesitation in recommending it.

I found it strong, discrete and reception no different to the OEM (including DAB).

Got the one from MX5Parts, didn’t fit perfectly, the diameter is smaller, comes in Honda packaging so ideal for their models (my niece’s Jazz).  The Moss item is a perfect fit and the one to go for, got one on mine!

Does the Moss aerial fit on a Mk4? The fitting looks flush and the aerial on Mk4 is on the slope of the quarter panel…is there an adaptor to make the aerial vertical?

I have the Moss stubby for my mk4 fits perfect and I’m very happy with it. Sorry forgot to mention no adaptor required old one screws off new one screws straight back on!

I also have the £22 (shipped) moss stubby and it fits perfectly. I noticed no loss in reception but I don’t often listen to radio.

It fits the Mk4 at exactly the same angle as the OE aerial, there is no adapter.  Why on earth do you want it to be vertical?

Hi CB,

The RF rear wing is a different shape to the soft top one.

Thanks Malc!  I hadn’t realised that!

Hi Baillie.  What I suggest you do is grasp your OE aerial 10cm from its base (while it’s still fitted to the car) and look at that last 10cm, that will give you an idea of what the stubby aerial will look like in terms of height and angle.

Here’s a pic of the moss stubby on a RF

Thanks for the pic.
It’s exactly what I wanted to see.

Cheers
