Replacement existing cloth seats with leather

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __MX5 MK C “07”
  2. I’m based near: __Birmingham
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Replacement seats

Hi a couple of question regarding replacement of cloth seats with leather for my NC3.

  1. Can the seats be changed as a straight swap ?
  2. Is their a power connection already available under the existing seats for heated seat ?
  3. Is their a power switch already available on the dash board?

You need to clarify which NC you have, 07 plate is NC1 but your 2nd post says NC3.

Anyways if an 07 plate then get leather seats from an NC1 that’s up to year 2008/2009, they changed the model including the leather heated seat style during 2009 and called it NC2. The leather seats will fit ok from an NC2 into an NC1 but the heated pads and connections into the seat are different to NC1.
Also the switches are different between the two, later model switches have variable heat settings, the NC1 switches are just an on/off rocker type switch.

The wiring for heater seat switches should be behind the dash panel on a car not fitted with leather heated seats. You’ll need to buy the switch panel complete with suitable switches to plug in to get the seats working.
You can get the later seats and switches to work in an earlier car but it’s a faff, somewhere on the forum it’s been done, you need a little more information if you can tackle such a modification.

You could also look at having your existing seats retrimmed in leather.

Here is a before and after of the cloth to leather seats in my Dad’s mkII MX-5.

Bought as a birthday present off eBay for £300 for the pair.

They were both immaculate.
