Replacement light bulbs for the home at how much!

Just been on Amazon to check out some replacement SES bulbs to go from standard filament to LED. Found some and now ordered at £6 for 2 however I was also offered for consideration " Philips Hue " at £65 for 2.

What !!

Since when did light bulbs become that expensive although I have since found out that they can change colour for your moods.

About 35 years of having 2 old fluorescent tubes in the garage I priced up some new led ones. Looked at variations in prices at different outlets when up popped some at Lidl @£11.99 each. I bought 3 and that lot completed the whole property into LED lights.
Even the shed has LED lights, again courtesy of Lidl.

I think they are hoping that you hit the ‘buy now’ button by mistake. There seems to be quite a number of overpriced items particularly on ebay.

In 2014 I had a couple of free samples to try.
The bulbs were barely OK; running far too hot (~90C), and consequently short lived (~200 hours!), and inefficient (~80 lumen per watt).

If the rest of the system had worked OK I might have persisted with the experiment because the concept is brilliant.
BUT, their controlling software was an unmitigated disaster. They also wanted me to use their bloated and flakey mobile app, and a little hub/bridge which crashed the router, and to open my secure network to the Phirips website.
I refused to even consider that final idiotic option.

When I was playing with them the software wasn’t available for a PC or NAS home controller, and at the time the SDK and API were only for OSX so I could not write my own version. If they’ve fixed my gripes in the last ten years it might be worth considering, but not for me.
Life is too short for messing about.
