- My model of MX-5 is: __MX5 MK3

- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Replacement of plastic radiator tank with Aluminium unit
As a precaution I have purchased a Aluminium replacement radiator header tank for my 2007 MX5. Before I start is this a relatively easy to do and is their anything I should be aware off. Many thanks to the forum Paul
Easy job, unbolt the current one, replace with new. I left the cap on and removed the small hoses on the side then taped up the nozzles to prevent spillage. I then tilted the tank as I lifted it to squeeze the large hose clips to remove.
If I remember correctly there’s a clip securing the large hose to the cross member down below, it’s probably easier if this is released too. As I say I’m thinking back, I’ve done it twice now but about 3 years ago.
You can more or less save the coolant doing it this way and return it into the new tank.

Fairly straightforward, I’d syringe what coolant you can from plastic expansion tank first.
You may need to remove battery to remove tank (I did on NC1)
Put some rags under tank for coolant leak from hoses on tank.
Fit new tank, top up , start car and expell any air.
I raised from end of car to help with the bleed process.
I understand the precaution, however, I’ve been on here for 10 years and never heard of one failing.

It’s an American thing in some states due to extreme heat.
