Replacing O rings on AC compressor

Hi, following on from an earlier post I put up this morning regarding a leak in the AC system on my 95 Mk1 I’m looking for some advice.

My AC is leaking from the input and output joints on the compressor, looks like the O rings are to blame. I looked at trying some STP Stop Leak ( see previous post ) but the general opinion seems to be to replace the O rings first.

Looking at this again this afternoon I think I can get to the 10mm bolt on the joint on the top of the compressor but the lower one seems inaccessible. It looks to me that at least the powered steering reservoir and probably the air filter box needs to be removed. Access from below the car didn’t seem to offer any easier solution.

Can anybody out there please give me some advice as to how I can replace these O rings or I will have to revert to the StopLeak solution.

Many thanks.

You will need to remove both joints/fittings,remove whatever required for access.Clean mating surfaces on both pipe flanges and compressor face as they will probably have gone powdery/flakey.You can use brake cleaner or similar ,but cover the compressor port holes to prevent debris entering.Coat the new O rings with either a/con oil or vaseline.Do NOT use a leak sealer.
