RESPRAYING A BONNET

 Anyone any educated guesses as to how much it would cost for a respray of a Mark 2.5 bonnet.

I paid £280 last year to have my Mk1 bonnet sprayed

Black can be an expensive colour to spray. Is it a bare metal respray or top coat only?

I would guess around £300 for a top coat only based on prices I have seen around, bare metal can be double that depending on prep work.

 How much

Your in the wrong part of england lads,if someone asked that much up here for just a bonnet ,we would send the boys round{#emotions_dlg.wink}

M-m

 The local sprayshop said that they would have to do the wings and bumper as well to match, as a respray on just the bonnet would show up too much. Needless to say their price was a bit too much, especially as they would have to get a Ding guy in to take out some car park dings first on my left wing. The total quote came to nearly 750+Vat.

 I had to chip marks repaired by chips away and although the repair has not spoilt the bonnet I just wondered whether a respray of the bonnet was an option.

Your not wrong there! A bonnet shouldn’t cost much more than about £120…thats for a flat back and paint.

Sorry but my car has just been in for some damage as some will remember and to just repaint a bumper came to about £750 although my paint seems to be dearer than gold!

It does seem daft that it costs so much but these days, at least in the South if you take a car to a body shop it starts at £500 before they do anything.

I have just thought, how about finding a good condition seconhand bonnet in the right colour and giving it a good polish?

 I agree with Mazdamender, I think some of the prices quoted are beyond belief.  The going rate for replacing an MX5 bumper and repainting metallic,  pearlescent, whatever you like, oven baked all the trimmings, in this neck of the woods  is around the £500 mark.   Mind you I never venture south of the river Trent these days!

 I Manage a large Mazda approved Bodyshop in Sussex, And as a Thatcham approved estimator I would estimate the job as follows =

1 / Prep Bonnet 2 hours (to include any stone chips and minor dents)

2 / Prep wings and front bumper for blend 2.7 hours

3 Colour and Bake 1.4 hours

4 / Total  6.1 Hours @ OC members rate £26.50 = £161.65 + £90.00 paint and materials = £251.65 + VAT

5 /  Job Total £301.98

Hope this gives you some idea {#emotions_dlg.thumb}

 Thanks for everyones input I have had a quote of £400 inc VAT from a quality body shop up here in the frozen north.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but thought some of you might be interested in what I have been quoted (worth a laugh).

My MX5 (53reg) Mk2.5 bonnet has scratches on it (from a cat sitting on the hump bit), plus some paint blisters, stone chips etc.

I have just been quoted: £1076!  I don’t think the car is worth much more than £3000k in pristine condition.

I won’t tell you which company as that would be unfair, but here is the breakdown:

They would remove the bonnet and bumper, smooth the areas and respray:

Total Labour Cost(16.90Hrs) £608.40
*Total Other Services £5.00
Total Parts Cost £0.00
PAINT & MATERIALS £283.45

I have no doubt the car would like like new once it was done, but its a bit too much for me.

bloody hell!!!

 First thought, the decimal point is in the wrong place.  Second thought, they just do not want the job, fine there must be plenty who do.

If you are South of London, check out Baldocks near Haywards Heath. Very affordable for a proper bodyshop (Renault approved). If it’s an insurance rate job, they will even give you cash back (NB: Always ask for a “retail” quote if you are paying for it yourself.)
