Hi there
I am halfway through replacing the plastic windscreen grille on my Mk1 Eunos
I have a replacement part but its second hand. I’ll be buying new screw covers so i want the trim to look good as well and I can try out any suggestions out on the old trim (partially broken)
So what products would you recommend to restore the look of it - i know it won’t completely match the new screw covers but i want to do as good a job as i can
Also when i have finished the job I’ll post a " how to" article
You could try Autosol, if you do, use it very sparingly and do a small patch test. I have heard of other metal cleaners being used (duraglit, brasso, Tcut etc) as well as toothpaste too, but I haven’t used them purely because I’ve had autosol to hand. They are all abrasives, so go carefully.
I’d use Meguiar’s Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner (M39) for cleaning something like this, but in trying to find you a link it looks like they’ve discontinued it and haven’t replaced it in the line-up
Recommendation from Meguiar’s was to use Citrus Power Cleaner instead. Which is an APC (All Purpose Cleaner) - similar to Bilt Hamber Surfex which I’d recommend.
Vinyl Cleaner worked best being applied and worked with a small soft brush, to a small area at a time. I’d be minded to try that with a small amount of neat APC to a test area.
Once dry and upto a clean standard, I’d protect it. I use Wolf’s Trim Coat for things like this, and I’ve also picked up a similar product from Soft99 but I haven’t tested it yet.
As you have the old part for practicing i personally would try a small butane solder iron with a blow torch tip or a heat gun with care.
I did mine this way, attached pic of me using the same method on my AXGT plastics
Lots of restoring plastic how to on you tube.
