Revolution 8 spokes aka minilite reps

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NA 1.6
  2. I’m based near: ULSTER
  3. I’m looking for technical INFO or recommendations on: THESE WHEELS

Had been searching around for my favorite 70’ 80’s era wheel the famous Rally Minilite, talking with a few race and rally guys about what i wanted to fit … i don’t want a heavy 7 or 8 inch wheel sticking out like a hick escort without spats, so i was recommended to speak with the Revolution and Minilite guys,as seems they did an 8 spoke wheel in black or gold for the 4 stud mx5s some time ago and there were a few around it was the correct offset at 6x15 which minilite couldn’t supply on their equivalent rim they suggested staying at 14… I then called a friend who is a big supplier of rims over here and had his thoughts on it , they say they are rally strong, he reckoned they had a premium tag on them but he doesn’t deal with the manufacturer or supplier after a fall out many years ago, they arrived friday in Revolution competition wheel boxes and they are complete with 16 new nuts , wheel centrebore spacer rings bore caps and alloy valve covers, and black as a black thing… tyre choice is next, its not a daily driver, its an old mans plaything, but the old man still hoons a bit …

Very nice, the minilites used to be great wheels but because they were made for rally they were very heavy! Always had a soft spot for 8-spoke wheels on a mk1 /2

as regards pics the only ones i have are the ones the supplier sent before we dealt, at my tyre guys shop they’re still in boxes, tyres are ordered and the supplier like you is looking for visuals, car is off road on the drive happed up under a 4 layer weather cover, , when i get at least 2 of the wheels i’ll fit them and do some pics… will

nope. The ones they used on the works cars were magnesium alloy.

Yes the early ones were magnesium, only works stuff later they went to a heavier forged alloy as the light mag ones were deadly expensive and privateers running 8/ 9 / 10 inch wide on Escorts and TR7v8s and Metro 6R4’S still wanted Revolution or Minilite which were a proven strength wheel and could be driven on for a few miles with a destroyed tyre on the loose stages…

OK its mid February and i have had opportunity in the last week to test my car over 20 mls with these new wheels and i would have to say that my first impressions are good, the steering seems to have more feel, previously i felt that the steering was too light with not much reaction feel. this is after 2 suspension and full wheel alignments, i even went as far as getting a smaller steering wheel which i have used since i began to drive it while checking that all my work and rebuilt susp was doing its job, then by accident i read a few days ago that the MX5 was designed with zero scrub steering which causes exactly what i felt, no real feel available in the steering as std. so my new minilites with their different and less inset measurements have ‘‘by accident’’ helped me to attain more feel in the steering… any comments?? w
