Revs rising when changing gear

Hello all,

Ive just purchased my first Mx-5, a 1998 Mk2 1.6, its not without faults but I already love it!

One of the stranger problems it has is that the revs momentarily rise when changing gear,

I can take my foot off the accelerator, press the clutch, and watch the revs blip up a couple of hundred before reducing (maybe a little  slowly) to normal

Ive just done a basic service on the engine, plugs, oil, air filter etc, which hasnt changed it at all.

Its not the end of the world, but it does spoil the experience a bit, any suggestions?

Cheers

Wouldn’t be something to do with the base idle speed would it? - someone more techy will no doubt have an answer soon. [:D]

On a Mk1 there are 2 switches associated with driving and revs, 1 on the gearbox, which senses neutral, 1 on the clutch which does a similar thing. Have a look at the clutch switch first, theres a FAQ in the appropriate section [I guess It’s the same for a Mk2 1.6]

All new to me - ta GW. Will look tomorrow at work… am busy tonight.
